The Tampa Bay Rays acquired relief pitcher Jesse Crain from the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Crain, 32, is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder strain but is hopeful to return to action before too long. In 36 2/3 innings of work this season Crain has a 0.74 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP. Tampa Bay has given up future considerations to the White Sox in order to get the deal done reports Joel Sherman. These considerations undoubtedly are dependent on the health of Crain.

The Mystery of Ramon Troncoso

Often times when watching a White Sox game, Ramon Troncoso enters from the bullpen, and I wonder why he is on the team. Last night’s game was one of those times, as he served up an off-speed pitch up in the zone to Jason Giambi that still hasn’t landed yet, ending the game on a walk-off home run.   Troncoso was close to dominant for the Charlotte Knights before...

Despite many rumors and counter rumors in the last few weeks, Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting the Diamondbacks are “no longer” in the Jake Peavy sweepstakes.

Pirates' rumors: deal for Alex Rios not close after all

As the non-waiver deadline pulls to within 24 hours (July 31, 4:00 p.m. EDT), the rumor mills abound with potential trades. However, it often sees new twists for the same potential deals. Peavy pulled from start for ChiSox, Sox biggest player in Lee trade talks

CSN Chicago is reporting that Jake Peavy was pulled from his start tonight with the Chicago White Sox. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is coming to Boston, but we can't rule that out yet. Also, the Sox are still the biggest player in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. We already know Bogaerts won't be dealt and no other names have been thrown out in the talks. We will...

After what seemed like an imminent trade, the Chicago White Sox are now telling teams they plan to keep Jake Peavy.  The original plan was to start a rebuild with Peavy as the trade bait.  However, it seems the White Sox may have shifted gears after listening to offers on him.  They may choose to build around the veteran righty. The White Sox are telling other teams they&...

James Loney Glad He Was Part of Red Sox’ 2012 Blockbuster Trade, Enjoying Resurgent Season in Tampa Bay

BOSTON — Is it fair to call James Loney‘s 2013 campaign a breakout season? Usually that’s the kind of terminology that’s reserved for a young player still in his first few seasons, but for Loney, it’s happening at age 29. During his first two partial seasons in Major League Baseball with the Dodgers, Loney had a .915 OPS in nearly 450 at-bats. After that, however, he struggled...

Report: A’s out of Jake Peavy chase

Over the weekend, professional rumor starters, a.k.a. reporters, said that the A’s had emerged as the front runners in a field that includes other postseason hopefuls, the Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers and Cardinals, to land Jake Peavy, one of the top starting pitchers on this year’s trade market. It makes sense for the A’s—adding a veteran pitcher to the rotation, that is....
