The Tampa Bay Rays acquired relief pitcher Jesse Crain from the Chicago White Sox on Monday.
Crain, 32, is currently on the disabled list with a shoulder strain but is hopeful to return to action before too long.
In 36 2/3 innings of work this season Crain has a 0.74 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP.
Tampa Bay has given up future considerations to the White Sox in order to get the deal done reports Joel Sherman. These considerations undoubtedly are dependent on the health of Crain.

Jake Peavy has been on the trade block and it looks like the White Sox have finally dealt him. See who is involved in the deal.
Often times when watching a White Sox game, Ramon Troncoso enters from the bullpen, and I wonder why he is on the team.
Last night’s game was one of those times, as he served up an off-speed pitch up in the zone to Jason Giambi that still hasn’t landed yet, ending the game on a walk-off home run.
Troncoso was close to dominant for the Charlotte Knights before...
UPDATE: Multiple writers are reporting the Diamondbacks are not yet over Peavy. It almost seems as though they’ve re-entered the race late and are the one team the Peavy news is now revolving around.
Despite many rumors and counter rumors in the last few weeks, Bob Nightengale of USA Today is reporting the Diamondbacks are “no longer” in the Jake Peavy sweepstakes.
Rays pitchers Chris Archer and Fernando Rodney seem to be having a weird chat in the dugout. We’ll never be sure of what the topic of conversation is here, but can let our imaginations explore the possibilities. If only these guys could be miked up during games.

As the non-waiver deadline pulls to within 24 hours (July 31, 4:00 p.m. EDT), the rumor mills abound with potential trades. However, it often sees new twists for the same potential deals. One such example includes the Chicago White Sox and a pending deal to send outfielder Alex Rios to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
First, on Tuesday morning, the trade for Rios was heavily rumored to...
CSN Chicago is reporting that Jake Peavy was pulled from his start tonight with the Chicago White Sox. It doesn't necessarily mean that he is coming to Boston, but we can't rule that out yet.
Also, the Sox are still the biggest player in the Cliff Lee sweepstakes. We already know Bogaerts won't be dealt and no other names have been thrown out in the talks.
After what seemed like an imminent trade, the Chicago White Sox are now telling teams they plan to keep Jake Peavy. The original plan was to start a rebuild with Peavy as the trade bait. However, it seems the White Sox may have shifted gears after listening to offers on him. They may choose to build around the veteran righty.
The White Sox are telling other teams they&...
BOSTON — Is it fair to call James Loney‘s 2013 campaign a breakout season?
Usually that’s the kind of terminology that’s reserved for a young player still in his first few seasons, but for Loney, it’s happening at age 29. During his first two partial seasons in Major League Baseball with the Dodgers, Loney had a .915 OPS in nearly 450 at-bats. After that, however, he struggled...
As the deadline nears we knew the Red Sox had to make a move to bolster their rotation as the uncertainity with Clay Buchholz moving forward. The Red Sox struck gold by adding Jake Peavy from the Whitesox in a three team deal which also included the Detroit Tigers. Peavy is signed through the 2014 season and will make 14.5 million for that season. Some inital notes is there will...
Over the weekend, professional rumor starters, a.k.a. reporters, said that the A’s had emerged as the front runners in a field that includes other postseason hopefuls, the Red Sox, Orioles, Dodgers and Cardinals, to land Jake Peavy, one of the top starting pitchers on this year’s trade market.
It makes sense for the A’s—adding a veteran pitcher to the rotation, that is....
The competitive nature of one of the American League East’s hottest rivalries extended beyond the playing field on Monday night, as the Red Sox and Rays continued to talk trash on Twitter after the final out.
Following the Rays 2-1 win against the Sox, a win that helped them overtake the Sox and secure a half-game lead in the AL East, the Rays official Twitter account threw a...
It has been a mere five days since David Price came into Fenway Park and dominated the Red Sox lineup en route to a complete-game win. Now, he’s looking to emulate his performance that held one of the best-hitting teams in baseball to a five-hit night.
