Jim Monaghan Contributing writer Mike Carp's pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove home Jarrod Saltalamacchia as the Red Sox came from behind to beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 at Fenway Park. Boston starting pitcher John Lackey went 7.1 innings holding the Orioles to three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four in the no-decision. For Lackey it was his seventeenth quality start, and while the quality start statistic may be a bit nebulous, he has allowed three runs or less in nineteen of his twenty four starts. Two of his hits allowed were home runs, solo shots by Manny Machado (12) and Chris Davis (47). Davis doubled home Machado in the top of the first inning to give the Orioles a 1-0 lead; Baltimore doubled the advantage to 2-0 on Machado's home run in the top of the third inning. The Red Sox answered back with a run in the bottom of the third on Shane Victorino's RBI single. After Davis gave the Orioles a 3-1 lead in ...

O's recall RHP prospect Gausman; option Chen

The Baltimore Orioles have promoted touted prospect Kevin Gausman from Triple-A Norfolk before their game against Boston and optioned left-hander Wei-Yin Chen to their Gulf Coast League affiliate. Manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday ''service time'' allowed the club to send Chen to their Gulf Coast League club in Sarasota, Fla. Chen will be recalled to make his...

Orioles' Jason Hammel to begin rehab assignment Thursday

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Jason Hammel successfully completed a bullpen session over the weekend, and manager Buck Showalter told reporters -- including Jeff Seidel of MLB.com -- that the starting pitcher is now slated to make a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday with the team's Double-A affiliate. When Hammel takes the mound tomorrow for the Bowie Baysox, Showalter...

As reported by Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com, Betemit  is expected to start against Boston's John Lackey on Wednesday.  Betemit took balls at  third base...

Orioles beat BoSox, eye wild card

Chris Tillman isn't concerned about his steadily increasing win total or about further establishing himself as the ace of the Orioles staff. The right-hander knew the victory was more important to his team. Tillman pitched seven strong innings to earn his 15th victory of the season, and Baltimore beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Thursday night to avoid a three-game sweep. The...

Jim Thome’s place in Baseball’s Hall of Fame discussion

Today is the birthday of longtime MLB 1B and AL DH Jim Thome. He turns 43 and is likely not returning to baseball after last appearing for the Baltimore Orioles in 2012. Thome ranks as one of the quietest run producers in the history of MLB. Some of it has to do with his career being during the height of the steroids era. Two arguments can be made considering Thome’s career. One...

Davis wants Miggy to win Crown?

Chris Davis is Miguel Cabrera's biggest obstacle blocking him from winning the Triple Crown, but he wants the Tigers slugger to win it.

Davis hits 47th homer but Orioles lose to Red Sox

One night after getting banged around Fenway Park, the Baltimore Orioles could only watch as pinch hitter Mike Carp's blooper feel softly onto the grass. Carp's floater dropped into left in the eighth inning, landing just beyond the glove of Baltimore third baseman Manny Machado and scoring Jarrod Saltalamacchia from second base with the tiebreaking run to lift the Boston...

Chris Davis: I hope Miguel Cabrera wins the Triple Crown again

At the moment, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is the only person standing between Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera and back-to-back American League Triple Crowns. Cabrera’s .357 batting average is a whopping 25 points higher than the next-best in the AL, which is Mike Trout’s .332. Miggy also has 130 RBI, which is 10 […]

Stephen Drew Starts at Shortstop Against Left-Hander Wei-Yin Chen in Series Opener With Orioles

The Red Sox will return home Tuesday night to face the Baltimore Orioles, and with the O’s going with a left-hander to open the series, it seemed to make sense to start Xander Bogaerts at shortstop to make his home debut. However, it will be Stephen Drew in the lineup to begin the three-game series, which also opens a nine-game homestand. The left-handed-hitting Drew will get the...

Time for the Oriole Stomp

This post is gonna be quick. And it’s gonna be to the point. Fact is it seems like the Orioles have had our number for so long, I almost can’t remember a time when Buck Showalter wasn’t grinning and rubbing his hands in the opposing team’s dugout, nodding in approval as his team dropkicks ours out of the standings. No more, I say. I want all three of these games. I want...

Recap - Sox fail to sweep Orioles

Jim Monaghan Contributing writer Manny Machado's one-out double in the top of the third inning drove in a pair of runs and helped lift the Orioles to a 3-2 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Boston took two of three in the series. Jon Lester lacked sharpness, but pitched six innings giving up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four. Meanwhile, the...

Orioles rumors: Baltimore still discussing Mike Morse, Josh Willingham

The Baltimore Orioles have been claiming players and discussing trades left and right as Sept. 1 has approached. The O's are clearly looking to add a bat, and they remain engaged in trade talks with both the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins involving outfielders Mike Morse and Josh Willingham, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports. #Orioles remain engaged in ongoing...

Two Explosive Offenses Meet When Red Sox Take On Orioles, Fight to Stay Atop AL East (Video)

There’s no place like home — that’s certainly how the Red Sox should feel as they start a nine-game homestand after playing 16 games on the road. They kick it off Monday night with a three-game set against the Orioles, who certainly shouldn’t be underestimated.  O’s Slugger Chris Davis leads the league in home runs, and is a force to be reckoned with on offense. NESN...
