Photo Courtesy of Bleacher Report Before the season started, I think most people thought the Red Sox and Yankees would be battling not to finish last, but instead they are battling for the top spot. And currently, it's the Red Sox who have the upper hand. A quick look at the MLB Standings tells you that the Sox are 2.5 games up, while the Yanks are tied with the Orioles for second. Let's take a look at why the Red Sox are on top, shall we? Here are my three keys to their success so far. Let's start with with pitching. Yesterday, I made my case for Clay Bucholz winning the Cy Young award, and I stand by that. But it's more than that, though. It's JOn Lester, who has been almost as good, but he's going through a rough patch. Call me crazy, but I think when both Lester anc Bucholz are pitching on top of their game, the Sox have the best one-two punch in baseball, or one of the best, anyways. The bullpen has also been rock-solid for the most part, but some crack...

Man found dead on John Henry's yacht

A developing story from the Boston Globe: Boston Police and medics were called to John Henry's yacht, Iroquois, to tend to a man who died. Efforts were made to revive the man, said to be 28-30-years old, but were unsuccessful. So far the Globe story indicates that the likely cause of death was suicide, and that the man may have been working on the boat. No name is given at this...

Red Sox’ Jacoby Ellsbury targeting Tuesday return

Boston Red Sox center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury has missed the last few games due to left groin tightness. While Ellsbury was sidelined for the team’s entire three-game series against the New York Yankees, manager John Farrell told Ian Brown of MLB.com that the team is targeting a Tuesday return for the center fielder. "Improved," said manager John Farrell. "...

Law: Red Sox "wide open" for draft

The MLB draft starts on Thursday, so we're in the thick of mock draft season. ESPN Insider Keith Law is on his "3.0" mock draft, and will probably get up to 14.5 before things kick off. Thanks to Bobby Valentine and that garbage team from last year, the Red Sox own the 7th pick, their highest in years. The current projection by Law? Not one of confidence: His only...

Rangers OF's 67-mph pitch strikes out batter

Your browser does not support iframes. The Texas Rangers were getting beat by the Boston Red Sox so badly on Tuesday night, manager Ron Washington decided to spare his pitchers and let a position player hurl an inning during their 17-5 loss. That player was outfielder David Murphy, who turned out to have more success [...]

Pawsox Lineup and Game Notes 6/4

The Pawtucket Red Sox are riding high and have won three of their first four games on this homestand against the Syracuse Chiefs. Pawtucket will begin a four game homestand against the Charlotte Knights, who they defeated last fall to win their first Governor's Cup in 28 years.  Currently, the Pawsox are first in the International League North Division with 35-23 record and...

Jarrod Saltalamacchia Praises John Lackey’s Performance in Hard-Luck Loss (Video)

John Lackey may not have gotten the win Wednesday night, but the right-hander impressed his teammates and coaches with yet another quality start. In six innings of work, Lackey allowed just one run — a home run by former teammate Adrian Beltre — on five hits and zero walks. Starts like this have been the norm for the veteran for nearly a month, as he’s allowed just four total...

Unlikely Pairing of Daniel Nava, Mike Carp Atop Boston Lineup Leads Red Sox in Rout of Rangers

Somebody must have messed up an order. The fireworks arrived in Boston a month early. The Red Sox put on quite the show at Fenway Park on Tuesday, beating the one team that has dominated them this season by double-digits. Boston plated runs in each of the first seven innings, including home runs in the second, fourth, fifth and sixth, to score more runs in one night than the Rangers...

Watch A Severe Thunderstorm Scare The Living Crap Out Of The Red Sox & Yankees (VIDEO)

I don’t know what the Yankees should be more afraid of, this severe thunderstorm or how the Red Sox are playing. Boston would go on to win the rain shortened game 3-0 after 6 inning. The upstart Sox have opened a 3 game lead over New York & 2.5 game lead over the Orioles for the A.L. East Lead.   Pot Of Baked Beans Goes To DieHard Sport!

JBJ reflects on first career homer and position with Sox

(AP Photo/Elise Amendola) Jackie Bradley Jr. launched his first homer in the majors last night, which was part of a night where everything went right for the Sox offense. It was great to see Bradley Jr. hit his first career home run against a team that has dominated the Sox in recent years. JBJ had only a few words to say about it. WEEI Jackie Bradley Jr. has accumulated...

Thunder sends Yanks, Sox scrambling

Your browser does not support iframes. Sunday night's game between the Red Sox and Yankees at Yankee Stadium was delayed three times by weather and ultimately called after 5-1/2 innings. Boston won 3-0 , but judging by this video, players on both teams probably consider themselves winners for getting out of the place in one piece. During one of the delays erupted a boom of...

Red Sox announcer: "We gotta recap this sh*t?"

The Red Sox destroyed the Rangers 17-5 last night in a game that devolved to the point where Rangers OF David Murphy took the mound and began striking out Red Sox.  After the game mercifully concluded after 3 hours and 10 minutes, Sox analyst Dennis Eckersley got caught with a hot mic going to break asking "we gotta recap this sh*t?!" Such is the nature of a lenghty...

Four Bases: Rangers 3, Red Sox 2

After offense was easy to find last night, it disappeared again tonight. The Rangers bullpen was able to mostly shut down the Red Sox after Alexi Ogando went 5 2/3 innings, and all the Red Sox bullpen could do was try to keep Boston in the game. Here are the four bases: First Base: Walks hurt more than a sunburn. Sunburns sometimes are not to bad, and sometimes walks are not either...
