Cleveland fans have needed their team to give them a “we are really serious about winning football games” type move since the NFL gave football back to the city. The Lerner family never really showed much interest, but it seems that new owner Jimmy Haslam is wasting zero time in his first offseason. He is going for the end zone in his first big move besides getting rid of Pat Shurmur and Mike Holmgren. According to a report from Ian Rappaport at NFL.com, the Cleveland Browns are ‘very close’ to a deal with Oregon Ducks head coach, Chip Kelly. Kelly met with Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and CEO Joe Banner in Arizona on Friday. Kelly has been at the top of the team’s wish list as a replacement for Pat Shurmur, and the team has been expected to make a full-court press to land the hottest name on the market. It was reported yesterday that Kelly was expected to also meet with the Eagles and the Bills. But the Eagles are also looking to speak with the Colts Bruce Arians and the Seahawks Gus Bradley.
