Brendan Rodgers has insisted Liverpool are under no pressure to sell Luis Suarez despite the striker making it known that he is looking to leave the club in search of Champions League football.
After initially trying to push for a move to Real Madrid, Suarez has been linked by the latest live football commentary with a number of English clubs and the subject of an unsuccessful £30 million bid from Arsenal. But despite making numerous appeals to the club to consider allowing him to move on, Suarez doesn’t appear to be any closer to securing the transfer that he has been pushing for.
With the new Premier League season edging closer and closer, Rodgers has made it clear that unless anything drastic happens, Suarez will still be a Liverpool player by the time the new season gets underway in a few weeks.
“He is a wonderful player and he is still very much a Liverpool player. No matter who the player is, nobody is bigger than Liverpool Football Club. Luis is a very important member of this squad and I am looking forward to working with him again this season.”
“There has been lots of speculation about Luis moving to another club but, as I said, he is very much a Liverpool player. We had an offer that was nowhere near what we value him at. But unless something drastic happens, he will be staying here. He has got three years left on his contract,” insisted Rodgers.
After a disappointing first season as manager, Rodgers will be under pressure from football betting pundits this season to prove that he is the man to take Liverpool back to where they feel they should be. But the Liverpool manager will know that having Suarez in his side will be almost critical to his chances of leading the club back into the top-four next season.
