PHOENIX -- For the second time in four seasons, the Milwaukee Brewers are grooming a young shortstop long on talent but short on experience. In 2010, that player was Alcides Escobar. This year it's 22-year-old Jean Segura.
Ironically, Escobar was traded to the Kansas City Royals in a deal for pitcher Zack Grienke, and Segura was obtained when the Brewers shipped Grienke to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last July. The Brewers hope Segura progresses in Milwaukee the way Escobar has in Kansas City.
Ranked by Baseball America as the No. 55 prospect in the game and the No. 2 prospect in the Angels system heading into the 2012 season, Segura was the centerpiece of the package the Brewers received in the Grienke deal. Sent to the Brewers Double-A Huntsville farm team, Segura made an immediate impact, hitting .433 in eight games before being called up Aug. 6.
"It was great to come to Milwaukee last year," said Segura o...

The costume for Guido, the beloved Klement’s Racing Italian Sausage famous for its role in races during Milwaukee Brewers home games, has gone missing.

"I gave it to myself when I was about 5," Gennett said of the nickname.
When his mother would try to put his seatbelt on in the car, Gennett would click it off. She'd click it back in. He'd yank it right off. One day she got fed up. She took her son to the local police station to have officers teach him about...

A fair warning for those planning on having a prediction pool for next year's Academy Awards: Don't invite John Axford, because he'll win.
An avid movie buff and a former film major at the University of Notre Dame, Axford has been making his predictions for the Oscars public since 2010 and was almost perfect Sunday night.
The Milwaukee Brewers' closer went 14 of...
One of the challenges when it comes to ranking players by position in fantasy baseball is trying to determine which player is going to have that breakout season and return a profit to your auction buy or draft pick. When reviewing the list of catchers for the 2013 season, my pick to break out is catcher Jonathan Lucroy of the Milwaukee Brewers.
Lucroy was on pace for that type of...

Stops in Sugar Land Texas and Puerto culminated in a minor league deal with the resurgent Cleveland Indians.
It wasn’t long ago that Scott Kazmir was all but written off from the baseball world. Thankfully the first-year independent Sugar Land Skeeters thought enough to give him an opportunity when no one else would.
At 29 years old Kazmir still has lots of career left...
