SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- As spring training enters its final week Monday, the fifth spot in the Diamondbacks' starting rotation remains probably the team's biggest unanswered question.
The competition between left-hander Patrick Corbin and right-hander Randall Delgado has, however, seen a bit of separation after the pair's back-to-back starts Friday and Saturday, and it appears Corbin is in prime position to win the job.
For his part, Corbin feels he's done all he can to show the team he's worthy of the final rotation spot and isn't worrying too much about the looming decision.
"My goal now is to get ready for the season," Corbin said after his start Friday night. "I feel I've done everything they've asked. I feel that if they pick me for that spot, I can go out there and compete."
Against the Indians on Friday, Corbin allowed two runs on three hits over five innings. It was just his latest impressive showing. In 19 23 innings over...

Over the weekend, injured D'Backs starter Daniel Hudson sent out a tweet voicing his displeasure over the photo Topps chose to use for his baseball card.
Aaron Hill’s lack of strikeouts would indicate he’s a consistent hitter, but he’s not. Hitting .205 in 2010 and .246 in 2011, his season’s average was aided by a torrid finish with the Arizona Diamondbacks as he was hitting .225 with the Blue Jays.
Since being traded to the Diamondbacks, Hill has been one of baseball’s best offensive second basemen. Just look at the numbers.... Read more
The Diamondbacks released catcher Rod Barajas on Monday, making Wil Nieves the backup to starter Miguel Montero.
Barajas, a member of Arizona's 2001 World Series championship team, was a nonroster invitee in Diamondbacks camp this spring. He hit .290 with two homers and five RBI in 31 Cactus League at-bats.
The 37-year-old Barajas has a career .235 average with 136 home runs...
Isn't every Little Leaguer's dream to make it to the Majors and end up on a baseball card some day?
Imagine how Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Daniel Hudson must have felt when he saw an unflattering picture of him on his 2013 Topps baseball card.
The 26-year-old starting pitcher, about to begin his fifth season in the majors and third with the D-backs, was going through...
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- It has looked more and more likely for the last week or so that Diamondbacks outfielder Cody Ross will not be ready in time for Opening Day as he rehabs a strained soleus muscle in his left calf.
Ross said Sunday, however, that he is still targeting a return on Opening Day, although he also is being cautious not to make the injury into a bigger issue.
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- The Diamondbacks' lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals featured a few peculiarities, but they might end up being short-term regularities due to pair of injuries that have shaken up the team's outfield situation.
With Cody Ross still rehabbing a leg injury and Adam Eaton now sidelined between six and eight weeks with a sprained left ulnar collateral...
Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Adam Eaton will miss 6-8 weeks of action with a sprained elbow. It is a tough break for those fantasy owners viewing Eaton as a nice sleeper candidate in the middle of drafts and he had been steadily climbing in mock drafts the last few weeks. The winner in the Diamondbacks outfield is Gerrardo Parra who figures to see 125-150 more at bats than what...
The Arizona Diamondbacks have released catcher Rod Barajas, a move that makes Wil Nieves the backup to starter Miguel Montero.
Barajas, a member of Arizona's 2001 World Series championship team, was a non-roster invitee to the Diamondbacks this spring.
The 37-year-old Barajas was with the Diamondbacks from 1999 to 2003. He later played for Texas, Toronto, the Los Angeles Dodgers...
Every young boy or girl who wants to play sports for a living dreams of someday being featured on a playing card. Usually kids envision themselves on the front of a card jacking a home run or catching a touchdown pass. It didn’t exactly work out that way for Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Daniel Hudson.
Hudson is rehabbing from Tommy John surgery after he blew out his elbow last...
Daniel Hudson's seemingly harmless tweet about his baseball card picture that blew up across the internet Monday really was, well, harmless.
The Diamondbacks right-hander, who is expected to miss much of the season while rehabbing from Tommy John surgery after tearing a ligament in his arm last June, took to Twitter on Sunday after he opened some fan mail that included a new...
