Former Indians Pitcher Alex White Facing “Extreme DUI”

Alex White, the former first-round selection by the Cleveland Indians, may be staring at an extreme case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Otherwise considered a “choir boy” by his current general manager Dan O’Dowd, White could be facing charges of ”extreme” DUI – Driving Under the Inflence — after recording a blood-alcohol level of .174, more than...

Significant Nothings: Thoughts on The Indians & Spring Training

As I continue to battle my annual case of Spring Training writer’s block,* I thought I’d just ramble a bit about some of the Tribe issues on my mind. Left Field – I keep wondering: how was this team so ill-equipped to handle the inevitability of an injured Grady Sizemore? Had no one in the front office considered the possibility that Grady would miss part of this season? We’re...

Duncan's HR helps Indians top Royals split squad

Shelley Duncan hit a three-run homer to lead the Cleveland Indians to a 3-2 win over a Kansas City Royals split squad on Tuesday. Duncan connected in the third inning off Royals reliever Zach Miner, working his way back from Tommy John surgery in 2010. Starting pitchers Will Smith for Kansas City and Kevin Slowey of Cleveland each worked two scoreless innings. Irving Falu hit...

Jimenez's start not as bad as on paper

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- There is no worse way to spoil a glorious Arizona day, 80 degrees and a penetrating sun heating your neck like a hair dryer, than to read numbers next to your name like the ones credited to Ubaldo Jimenez. When the folks in Cleveland see those numbers, they are likely to gasp in dismay: one inning, five runs, five hits, one walk, 37 pitches. Jimenez hopes those...

Indians Michael Brantley Goes 2 for 3 In Cactus League Play MLB

It’s great to see The Indians Michael Brantley pick up where he left off before missing the last weeks of last seasons with a broken hand. Branley looks as though he will nail down the lead-off batting spot for the Tribe. Why not? Brantley went 2 for 3 yesterday and had a double too. Micheal Brantley could be the next Kenny Lofton for the Cleveland Indians. Just think how exciting...

Justin Masterson Sruggles As Indians Lose To The Reds

It was the battle of Ohio’s opening day starters yesterday in Cactus league play. For the Indians Justin Masterson took the mound and he struggled getting pounded for six runs over the 1-1/3 innings he pitched. Masterson didn’t look like the Masterson we knew from last season, he gave up five hits three walks and only had one strike out. Hey it is only spring training and Masterson...

The Cleveland Indians Have Got To Give A Spot to Shelley Duncan

Shelley Duncan is picking up right where he left off for the Cleveland Indians last September, tearing the cover off the baseball. Manny Acta has got to find a spot to place Duncan in. It is the perfect storm this spring. Acta thought he would have the services of Grady Sizemore after the Indians gave Grady a 5 million dollar incentive filled contract during the off season. Now Manny...

MLB Preview: Cleveland Indians

2011 RecapSparked by shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera (.296 BA, 10 HR, 36 RBI), the Tribe started out hot, rattling off an AL Central-best 32-20 record through the end of May. While the team struggled to maintain their torrid pace the rest of the way (finishing with an 80-82 record), it was a vast improvement for a team that many had pegged for the Central cellar. Along with the impressive...

The Cleveland Indians

As TSHQ continues our 2012 MLB preseason preview, we visit one of the most of the most downtrodden sports cities in the nation: Cleveland. The last great move I can remember any Cleveland organization making happens to belong to the Indians. They traded CY Young pitcher Bartolo Colon to the Montreal Expos for prospects Cliff Lee, Grady Sizemore, and Brandon Phillips. All of these...
