(PhatzRadio / AP) — Mike Sislo scored what proved to be the game-winner at 7:34 of the third period and Cory Schneider made 22 saves in the New Jersey Devils’ 2-1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night.
Devils defenseman Marek Zidlicky opened the scoring at 6:37 of the first period, dancing around Flyers defenseman Erik Gustafsson and evading goalie Ray Emery before backhanding the puck in from behind the goal line. Sislo scored a similar goal when he beat Andrej Meszaros and beat Emery low on his stick side.
The Flyers got within 2-1 when defenseman Kimmo Timonen scored on the power play at 18:29 of the third period, ending Schneider’s preseason scoreless streak at 158:22.
“What do you say?” Devils coach Pete DeBoer asked. “Just solid, confident and he gives our team that feeling when he’s in there.”
Schneider, who shut out the New York Islanders 3-0 on Saturday night, said he got plenty of help.
