Found October 31, 2012 on Redlegs Review:
Six Cincinnati Reds had a shot at winning a Rawlings Gold Glove Award on Tuesday night, yet none of them did. This comes as a relatively big surprise considering no other team in the major leagues had more nominees than the Reds. The awards were announced on ESPN2 for the second consecutive year. Brandon Phillips was a finalist at second base, but his bid for a fourth career Gold Glove was stymied by Chicago Cubs infielder Darwin Barney, who won the honor instead. Bronson Arroyo, Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Zack Cozart, and Drew Stubbs were each named finalst for the award at their respective positions as well, but ultimately came up short just as Phillips did. Both Phillips and Votto garnered the prestigious defensive prize at their positions last season. The trio of Bruce, Cozart, and Stubbs were vying for their first career Gold Glove awards. A few quick notes: + Neither the Tigers or Giants, the two World Series participants, had a Gold Glove player on it...

Ryan Ludwick attempts to drive in a run.We all knew it was going to happen, but yesterday Ryan Ludwick made it official. He declined his option for next year and became a free agent. Had he elected to take the option, he would have had another year and $5 million. On the open market he can probably get a 2-year deal and somewhat more millions, having hit .275 with 26 home runs in...

Dusty Baker as a box of toothpicks?

Have you ever wondered how awesome it would be if we could see some of the Reds dress up in Halloween costumes? I have. And as much as I (and others) would love to feast my eyes on such a spectacle, it isn't likely that we will get the chance to. However, thanks to modern day technology and a little imagination, I have created the following post which features costume recommendations...

Free agent preview: Cincinnati Reds

In a parallel universe, Scott Rolen makes a good throw to Joey Votto in the top of the tenth inning of Game 3 of the NLDS, the Reds sweep the Giants, and go on to win their first World Series since 1990. Really, it's possible that Rolen's bad throw is all that really separated the Reds from a World Championship. The Reds were a really good team in 2012, they won a lot of...

Reds go 0-for-6 in Gold Gloves

The Cincinnati Reds had more players nominated for a Gold Globe this year than any other team, but at the end of the televised announcement show, they went home with none. The Reds’ candidates were: Pitcher Bronson Arroyo – In Arroyo’s case, I’m going to say it was an honor just to be nominated. He’s got some good defense, but the best? First Baseman Joey Votto – Not...
