This is a collaboration between Trenni Kusnierek & Paul M. Banks PMB: There’s been a lot of talk about pitch counts lately. What do you think of Ned Yosts’ tendency to leave his starting pitchers in longer than most managers do. The Brewers rotation has had 8 games where the starter has gone 120+, only one other team -San Francisco with 6- has had more than four. Is this because of the bullpen’s shakiness? Trenni Kusnierek: Personally, I’m OK with Ned’s use of his starters. I sometimes think there is too much emphasis put on pitch count. I realize that this isn’t the 50′s or 60′s anymore when guys like Warren Spahn always went the distance, but I feel if the pitchers following performances don’t show a lot of ill effect, then the move is justified. CC is a horse and he WANTS to stay in and finish what he started. Ned is a lot of things, but he’s not oblivious or insensitive to the health of his team. If a guy starts to show fatigue or injury, he’s pulled from the game.  Case in...

Brewers Dig the Long Ball, But to What End?

(Image: Benny Sieu-US PRESSWIRE) Jim Souhan of the Minneapolis Star Tribune had an excellent piece Tuesday about Carlos Gomez and his emergence as an All-Star caliber player in 2013, in which Gomez attributes his success largely to the lack of restraint on his swing and approach to the plate.  Gomez, a former Minnesota Twin, found that swinging harder rather than swinging calculatedly...

Brewers Sunday: RHP Donovan Hand called up

MILWAUKEE The Milwaukee Brewers have selected right-hander Donovan Hand from Triple-A Nashville to fill the void left by closer Jim Henderson's placement on the disabled list. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Hand, the Brewers shifted right-hander Mark Rogers to the 60-day disabled list. Hand, 27, was Milwaukee's final bullpen cut in spring training, but went to...

Braun to miss time with right thumb injury

MILWAUKEE Milwaukee Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun will miss Monday's game against Minnesota with a right thumb injury and may need a couple of days off to help the recovery process. Braun injured the thumb two weeks ago and has been playing through the injury since. He's tried just about every remedy to try and alleviate the pain but hasn't found anything that works...

Gallardo, Roenicke baffled by short start

MILWAUKEE Yovani Gallardo says he felt good, but the results speak otherwise yet again. For the right-hander and the Milwaukee Brewers, it was more of the same Sunday afternoon. Their starting pitcher couldn't go deep into the game, and the offense struggled to consistently put run-scoring threats together. Gallardo lasted just four innings, allowed four runs on five hits...

Brewers place closer Jim Henderson on DL

Milwaukee Brewers closer Jim Henderson exited his last appearance with a hamstring injury. The ailment isn’t said to be a “serious pull,” but it is still severe enough to land the right-hander on the 15-day disabled list, according to Michael Hunt of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "It's not a serious pull," Henderson said, "but if they had not DL...

Brewers turn to Figaro to end losing ways

Times are tough for the Milwaukee Brewers. It's unclear if slugger Ryan Braun will be in the lineup Tuesday night, and the Brewers will be using a pitcher who failed to win a game in Japan last season in a home matchup with the Minnesota Twins. Milwaukee (19-30) has lost 19 of 24 after falling 6-3 on Monday. Braun was held out of the lineup with a nagging right thumb injury...

Is Alex Gonzalez playing shortstop and first base for Brewers at the same time? (Photo)

No, Jason Segura started at shortstop for the Milwaukee Brewers in Monday's game while Alex Gonzalez played first base. However, it would be understandable if FOX Sports viewers were confused by the graphic they displayed before the game showing Gonzalez playing both positions. Now that would be impressive, but something tells us Gonzalez will stick with playing one defensive...

When Stars And Scrubs Doesn’t Work

The Milwaukee Brewers have two of the top ten players in WAR, and neither of them is named Ryan Braun. Carlos Gomez (+3.2 WAR, #1) and Jean Segura (+2.5 WAR, #9) have been revelations for the Brewers, while Braun has been his usual dominant self, putting up +1.9 WAR with his usual brand of excellence. Toss in a strong performance from the underrated Norichika Aoki and 78 terrific...

Kyle Lohse to make Thursday start

credit: getty images Brewers starting pitcher Kyle Lohse threw a bullpen session on Monday. That session went well and the right handed pitcher will start Thursday for the Brewers against the Twins. Milwaukee had removed Lohse from the probable pitchers list on Thursday which had raised concerns about his sore elbow. We interrupt your otherwise dreary afternoon with this news: Kyle...

Brewers sideline reporter hit in hand by foul ball

Ever find those “sideline” reports annoying in sports? Well you are not alone. Fox Sports Wisconsin’s Milwaukee Brewers’ reporter Sophia Minnaert had the microphone knocked out of her hand last night night with a errant throw.

Twins, Brewers fighting to end slumps

The Milwaukee Brewers and the Minnesota Twins are not happy with the way their seasons have started. Both teams have struggled get good starting pitching, while the offenses haven't consistently scored runs. The two used to meet twice a year with at least three games at Miller Park and three more at Target Field. With the format of Interleague play changing this season, the...

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers – Game 50

Pedro Alvarez was responsible for more runs than the Brewers yesterday.  Too bad this guy sits for Brandon Inge and his .560 OPS on a semi-regular basis. I mean, who needs a power bat in the lineup against righties at the home run haven Miller Park? There is a very real chance that if Pedro…
