The news around the National Football League just keeps on coming, as today Mike Sando of ESPN.com is reporting that St. Louis Rams’ running back Steven Jackson has decided to void the final year of his contract, which in turn would make him an unrestricted free agent come March 12.
Jackson, who will turn 30 this July, rushed for more than 1,000 yards for the eighth-straight season in 2013, as he carried the ball 257 times for a total of 1,042 yards and four rushing touchdowns in 2012. He also caught 38 passes for 321 yards.
Jackson was scheduled to earn $7 million for the Rams in 2013 but the team has not expressed much interested in signing the soon to be 30-year old runner to a long-term deal, so Jackson was given the option to void his contract before the 2013 season, which it appears he will now do.
