Found November 16, 2012 on Subway Squawkers:
I was very excited to have the opportunity to speak with 2012 NL Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey earlier today. Dickey is one of the stars of "Knuckleball!," which is now available through video on demand. The DVD is available for pre-order at knuckleballmovie.com. Squawker Lisa and I were able to see the movie last spring at the Tribeca Film Festival and we highly recommend it, particularly if you are a Met fan or a Red Sox fan, since Tim Wakefield is also featured. But overall, it's a compelling story for baseball fans in general.   Subway Squawkers: First of all, congratulations!R.A. Dickey: Thank you.Subway Squawkers: In the age of Moneyball, do you think there is going to be more of an effort to develop knuckleballers as another way for teams to get an edge?R.A. Dickey:  Well, I think at the very least, it's as logical as trying to teach a hitter to switch-hit – that happens all the time. If you can teach a guy who would otherwise be released, who has good m...

Dickey Wins, Wants To Stay… Now Keep Him.

THE IMPORTANCE OF KEEPING R.A. DICKEY R.A. Dickey won the Cy Young Award last night, and emphatically reiterated his desire to remain with the Mets. That’s a good sign, and I have the feeling Dickey won’t hold out for the last dollar. He realizes the Mets gave him what probably was his last opportunity and there is a sense of loyalty. On the flip side, he realizes this will be...

Mets may be close on offer to Dickey

The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Or, maybe not. The Mets plan to offer Dickey a two-year contract extension, according to major league sources. Whether Dickey would accept such a deal remains to be seen. Dickey, 38, is under contract next season for $5 million. He likely would...

An Argument to Extend R.A. Dickey

Much of the talk around the Mets fan base in the wake of R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young win this week has been about his value and whether it would be best for the Mets to give Dickey a contract extension or trade him at what appears to be the peak of his value. I’ve found myself on both ends of this discussion over the last few weeks. There was a time two weeks ago that I had pretty...

What Will Mets Do With Wright and Dickey?

I used to love checking out those polls they frequently conduct at MetsBlog and always enjoyed reading the results. But in the last two years, the majority vote seems to mirror the same opinions of the MetsBlog team. I find their poll results being too predictable now, and I think it’s because readers have more choices with new Mets sites sprouting up all the time. We love to...

From Left Field: Only 3 Teams Have Traded A Reigning Cy Young Winner

Now that it’s official that R.A. Dickey has won the NL Cy Young, hopefully the trade talks surrounding him begin to subside. It’s sad that the Mets are in such a financial bind that they can’t find the money to lock up a Cy Young award winner to a contract extension. Sure, the arguments for trading him make sense. His value is at an all time high, and the Mets could maybe...

Report: Mets offer Dickey two-year deal

The New York Mets have reportedly offered NL Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey a two-year contract extension. Fox Sports reported Saturday morning that the Mets planned to make an offer but the New York Daily News later reported that the club already made the offer. It is not clear how much money is involved, but the Daily News reported that Dickey, 38, would sign a contract comparable...

R.A. Dickey Caps Off A Great Season and Great Day for the Mets

It has been easy to become a dyspeptic Mets fan the last few years. Injuries. Insipid performances from ownership promising change and not delivering. Some times, the talk of playing competitive ball, or just being a positive fan base sounds like prattle. The Jason Bay contract several years ago is now seen as a document that reeks of meretriciousness. Sometimes following this baseball...

This Is Too Funny… Mets On Verge Of Dickey Deal, Or Maybe Not

Major League sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that the Mets plan to offer R.A. Dickey a two-year contract extension… I think… The New York Mets could be on the verge of a breakthrough in their negotiations with National League Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey. Or, maybe not. The Mets plan to offer Dickey a two-year contract extension, according to major league sources...

Olney: Dickey wants more than $10 million/year on 2-year extension

According to Marc Carig of Newsday “the window between Thanksgiving and the winter meetings are going to be an important window in Mets’ talks with Dickey/Wright.”  That window may be even tighter as rumors today have suggested the team is making a 2-year offer to Dickey.  In fact, depending on what you read, the team may have made an offer as long as 2 weeks ago: #bbpBox_26984354869687091...

Cy Young surprise

Sure, OK, David Price wins the American League Cy Young Award. Not entirely surprising.   But R.A. Dickey in the National League? Don’t get me wrong, he put up some great numbers and was absolutely deserving of the honor. But raise your hand if you had Dickey winning the award before the season started.   [...]

Olney: Wilpons should re-sign Dickey or sell team

In reading a column from Buster Olney recently I saw the ESPN writer make a pretty bold statement regarding the Wilpon family and the New York Mets.  Most of the column requires ESPN Insider access to read, but Olney makes his point pretty clear in the intro (click here to read in full):   Photo by Michael G. Baron R.A. Dickey looked a little shaken after winning the Cy Young...

Rosenthal: Mets could be on verge of a breakthrough in negotiations with Dickey

Yesterda, Newsday reporter Marc Craig tweeted that New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson “doesn’t think Dickey winning the Cy Young will significantly impact talks.”  Ken Rosenthal’s article today for Fox Sports certainly seems to echo that sentiment as the team is reportedly preparing to offer Dickey a 2-year-extension: The New York Mets could be on the verge of...

On the Function and Direction of Post-Season Awards

On Wednesday, David Price was named the winner of the 2012 American League Cy Young Award, to some degree of disagreement. R.A. Dickey was named the winner of the 2012 National League Cy Young Award, to some lesser degree of disagreement. On Thursday, Buster Posey will presumably be named the winner of the 2012 NL Most Valuable Player Award, and Miguel Cabrera will presumably be...

Epilogue

And here I was ... worried that an innocuous tweet from Dan Plesac was a harbinger of doom.Turns out, I had nothing to worry about. R.A. Dickey won the National League Cy Young Award for 2012, becoming the first knuckleballer in history to win the award. And it wasn't close.Dickey received 27 first place votes out of 32, proving that the voters haven't completely lost their...

Sandy Alderson does not believe R.A. winning Cy-Young will impact negotiations

Late Friday evening, Newsday reporter Marc Craig tweeted, New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson does not believe contract negotiations will be significantly impacted with starter R.A. Dickey because he was recently awarded the National League Cy-Young: #bbpBox_269586042087165952 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_269586042087165952 a:hover { text-decoration...
