Last week, reports surfaced that Patrick Ewing turned down an offer to coach the Knicks’ D-League team. ”Patrick has paid his dues,” a source told ESPN NY. “He was a little insulted.”
Ewing has been an assistant coach for eight seasons, with the Washington Wizards, Houston Rockets and, most recently, the Orlando Magic. Despite that time in position, Ewing was turned down by Portland and Charlotte this offseason after interviewing for their head coaching vacancies. Many thought he had the inside track in Charlotte with Michael Jordan running the show. Instead, MJ brought in St. John’s assistant Mike Dunlap- a candidate whom spent very little time in the league.
Furthermore, the Knicks announced that Hakeem Olajuwon will be working with the team during training camp. We all knew the Orlando Magic would never receive a favorable return for Dwight Howard.
