The Eagles make their biggest 2010 off-season move!

Posted March 12, 2010 on DMcnabb4MVP's Blog:

By re-signing wide receiver Hank Baskett.

Baskett was originally traded from the Vikings to Philly for a roll of quarters and some hand creme in 2006. He then went onto play with the Eagles for three seasons, mostly in backup roles but, unlike the recently traded Reggie Brown, Baskett has always been a reliable backup player for the Eagles.

After the Eagles cut Baskett due to budget issues, he played for the Colts, only catching four passes in eleven games. He was mostly a special teams player, and on special teams is where he made the biggest blunder of his career. After he failed coming up with the ball after a surprise on-side kick by the Saints during the Super Bowl. Many Colts fans blame that on-side kick and Hank Baskett for the loss to New Orleans.

Although the Eagles have relied on Baskett as a reliable role player for three-years, it really doesn't mean much. Neither does the fact that they gave him a one-year contract. If Baskett blows again this year, like he did last year in training camp, well we all know the birds have no problem kicking his ass out on the streets of South Philly.

So Baskett quit slacking and earn that fifth or sixth wide receiver spot on the Eagles depth chart!

  • He won't, he's a basket case.
  • roll of quarters and some hand cream LMFAO!
  • I couldn't believe my ears when I heard this move. I am seriously starting to believe our FO will do anything to never win a ring.
  • They need a more physical receivers but Baskett?
  • Well you got what you wanted right?
  • i don't understand why eagles fans don't like this move he's not coming in to be a starter. he's here to be the 4th or 5th receiver. the eagles top 3 is young and talented. barring injury he won't see a lot of snaps.
  • exactly what im thinking. he'll come in on 4 wide and in running situations
  • you are correct sir, not all free-agency signings can be for All-Pro players.

And I believe that baskett wasn't that bad as a fifth or sixth receiver.
  • I think Marlin Jackson has a chance to contribute more. I am not loving the idea of a Baskett return, but I will say I would have perfered they kept him over Reggie Brown last year.
  • To be honest I like the Baskett move a little more than the Jackson move. Because we know Baskett isn't a top tier play-maker, but we also know that he will try to make plays every once or twice a game he's thrown the ball.

But they're bringing in Marlin Jackson who is usually at the cornerback position to play safety. Not to mention that he's coming off of an injury.

The Eagles will never learn, they will keep on playing people at positions that they are mediocre at, instead of keeping them at the position they have been know to make plays at.
  • I think they have so far made a bunch of minor moves that could have major impacts later. I like the idea of getting Tapp. He could turn out to be a good player. Mike Bell is not flashy, but is tough to bring down and could be a major contributor in short yardage. Baskett is not the fastest player, nor does he have great hands, but he has made some great plays in the past for the Eagles and is versatile. Jackson most likely will get a chance to start. Even if they decide to draft a safety or give the job to Macho again I think he will get a chance to play. Dropping some of the dead weight will be helpful for the team when the cap comes back. They will be in a position to make a play for FAs in the future.
  • championship!
  • I guess they all love the eagles since no one cares about the cowboys. they have no other choice but to read our posts go find some cowboy fans to talk to i forgot they only come out when they win
  • one down 2 to go
  • pod, what happened to all your buddy's articles?
  • Don't know i guess they band him for having more then ID's
he also has'nt had any comments either that's ok if it were not for eagle thread the cowboy fans would have nothing to read since they only come out when they win. there is only 1 cowboys fans on site i don't count Canuck or Monster as cowboy fans
  • I'm going to miss him.
  • WHY NOT SIGN T.O----THEY GOT MICHEAL VICK--WHATS THE DAMN DIFFERNCE---HE IS A MORE PROVEN WR FOR THE YOUNG GUYS---WHO ARE GOING TO STOP DJAX OR TERREL OWENS---the eagles F/O ARE A BUNCH OF DUCKS----you play to WIN GAMES-not please every body, with our moves---you prove that, with micheal vick phil eagles.
  • The difference is Mike Vick screwed the Falcons. T.O. screwed the Eagles. If he wasn't such a cry baby the Eagles could have been a SB contender for the next 5 years. That prick set the team back 3 years and did us no favors by joining the Cowboys. Phuck T.O. and I hope they never bring that scum back.
  • The Eagles have their top 3 receivers set. How long would it take until TO started crying that he wasn't getting enough looks?
  • not long, and if Kolb is the QB he won't need that
  • I hope that the Eagles don't screw themselves over by insisting on too much for Vick or Mcnabb if they really want to deal McNabb. Hopefully Reid's stubborness doesn't get in the way. If the Eagles don't get close to what they want and we have to listen to how fortunate the Eagles are for having 3 good QBs all season I might get sick.
  • You know, I actually thought about that when the Bengals opted to sign Bryant instead of him. There's a very good chance that Owens would help the Eagles receivers become great. But if, for some reason he goes postal again, you're risking this receiving corps which has finally become a receiving group we can be proud of.
  • It's bad enough T.O. and DJack have the same agent so they already are in the same circles, but the last thing I want is T.O. back in our locker room poisoning our young receivers again. T.O. ruined Greg Lewis, Freddie Mitchell, Lito Sheppard, and the team chemistry. Have you all forgotten how bad it got?
  • Oh I see TO controls the whole outcome EZ? He sets them back 3 years. The Eagles couldnt make one bold move in 3 years? What are you talking about?
  • If you don't think T.O. set the Eagles back you must not have been watching them, but you most likely were boycotting them anyway.
  • not to mention djax doesnt need a diva influence in his ear.
  • it's nice to talk about the eagles without the smarta@$$ comments from cowboys fans they need to stay on their own treads
  • TO is the last thing I am worried about. For once wide receiver is not a hot topic in the offseason nor it should be. Did everyone notice that this year, Boldin finally got traded and no Eagles fan even seem to bring his name up. And I don't at all think the Eagles should have worried about him. With Jackson, Maclin, and Avant as our third, we actually are set at wide receiver. I am not in love with our fourth wide receiver slot but that is not a real big concern. I don't want them wasting money on TO, they need to address the areas that they need help, I am referring to Defensive End, Safety, and Linebacker. This is one year we should not worry about any wide receivers, TO included. We also need another running back, so instead of TO, I would rather them sign a guy like Fargas or LT. I know LT might not have much left, but he might fit good here, he won't have to carry the load, he catches well out of the backfield, and he could help our second year running back learn the game. And I know he is somewhat comparable to Westbrook, but if history shows us anything, the one thing we will get from LT is he will be on the field every week. I love Brian Westbrook and mean him no disrespect, but I just think he injury problems are not going away and he is a huge risk to play a full year.
  • One last point. I think if you brought TO in you might actually retard the growth of Jackson, Maclin and Avant. There are only so many balls to go around and you can only entertain so many egos. Jackson is the man but he has an edge and I don't even want to think what could happen if a second TO experiment went awry. Those young receivers do not need a diva veteran coming in here screaming for the ball, they need to be on the field getting as much experience as possible and think TO would only find a way to make things bad.
  • I don't understand why anyone would want a pouting pre-madonna who is not as good as the trouble he causes.
  • The 81 I want already plays for the Eagles.
  • I truly believe that if Avant was thrown into the #1 position, he could be a nice #1 receiver. He has the best hands in the league and extends for some of the craziest catches I have seen in green. He caught balls that looked like McNabb was TRYING to throw away on purpose. Love Avant. Highly underrated. Better then T.O. IMO...
  • Avant has the best hands in the NFL ? Lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • [not displayed: comment from locked account]
  • lol and he said he is better than T.O.......and for some reason i dont think he means the present T.O......i think he means in his prime T.O lmfao!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • The biggest offseason move the Eagles have made so far is to get rid of all these oft-injured underachievers.
  • Amen!
