Anyone who has read me over the last 18 years covering this organ-i-zation knows I have taken issue with this company philosophy before. If I ran a team and my team was awful, I seriously would have the message to the local media: rip us, rip us as hard as you can. It’ll only make me want to work harder so I don’t have to get ripped by your scrawny, know-nothing ass anymore.
But the Avs feel different. They feel that if you just keep it all nice and positive, that all that pesky negative stuff – like non-playoff showings in four of the last six seasons and what looks more and more like a fifth in seven – won’t be noticed by the people. That the people would rather live in a company-line bubble of denial than, you know, the real world.
Only one problem with that in 2013: it doesn’t work. There is just way too much history with this team’s fan base by now to get fooled by any Altitude spin-based baloney. The team stinks right now, and ...
