Cortez Allen had surgery on his right knee Friday morning; he’s expected to miss a couple of weeks. Head coach Mike Tomlin labeled the surgery as “minor.” With Allen out, the Steelers will be in trouble if he’s not ready to go by the time the regular season rolls around. It was reported that Curtis Brown was taking snaps as the No.2 corner at the Friday night practice. And according to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Brown did not perform very well. This is Curtis Brown’s chance to finally take a turn for the better, and if he doesn’t, the Steelers may be looking at serious issues at cornerback. On top of Cortez Allen being sidelined, so is DeMarcus Van **** and Terry Hawthorne. The depth at cornerback is very slim. William Gay has proven to be strictly a nickel back. Gay played the role very well in the Steelers defense during the 2011 season. He then spent his 2012 season with the Arizona Cardinals. Gay played on the outside in Arizona, and was not very good. Curtis Brown also saw experience as a No.2 corner last season. Brown had to catapult into the starting position with Ike Taylor and Keenan Lewis being injured. Brown was downright awful when he was forced to start. Against San Diego, Brown let every pass thrown his way be completed. The Steelers better hope the injury to Cortez Allen is minor. Neither William Gay nor Curtis Brown can be a capable No.2 corner. This could end up being a season changing injury for the Steelers, if Allen does not recover quickly. Need NFL Tickets? Loading... Stephens-Howling right at home with Steelers

At 5-foot-7, LaRod Stephens-Howling doesn't feel out of place during some of the Pittsburgh Steelers' more size-oriented training camp drills. The running back has held his own during short-yardage and goal-line exercises and has looked right at home in ''backs-on-backers'' protection drills. It has helped that playing for the Steelers has made Stephens...

Matthew Marczi Earlier this week, we have devoted two articles to the pass blocking prowess of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ running backs last season, and how it will be a chore for Le’Veon Bell to get up to speed with the rest of the group. Pittsburgh Steelers: A look at the defensive line

Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel (photo credit: brettkeisel.com) I’m going to just come right out and say it, the defensive line of the Pittsburgh Steelers is the weakest part of the whole team.
