Found May 09, 2013 on Cardinals Diaspora:
14-7 on the road?  Yup. That'll do. roughly 1/4 of the way through the season away from Busch, the Cardinals are pacing for a record-breaking road record. And when you win on the road, you go to the playoffs. It really is that simple.  I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to get the feeling that this team could (COULD) be one of the best in franchise history. We're heading into mid-May and there have been 3 games that the Cardinals didn't have a chance at all to win.  Three. Out of thirty three. Even the powerhouse 2004 team that went for 105 wins were out of games more often. Further, the young prized prospects are coming into their own. Carlos Martinez is throwing fastballs through our hearts. Shelby Miller is looking like 20 year old Andy Benes' wet dreams.  Hell, Jake Westbrook for Cy Young! Maybe it's Friday. Maybe it's the half-decent weather for the first time in weeks... but this Cardinals team has the maki...

The Shelby Miller lists

As pretty much the entire baseball world knows by now, on Friday night, St. Louis Cardinals rookie right-hander Shelby Miller allowed a leadoff broken bat single before retiring the next 27 Colorado Rockies in order. I asked researcher Tom Orf to help put this almost-perfect game into perspective. St. Louis Cardinals, 0 walks, 13+ strikeouts Pitcher Date Tm Opp...

Shelby Miller Tossed a Perfect Game Last Night…Sort Of

Last night, St. Louis Cardinal rookie phenom, Shelby Miller, recorded 27 straight outs without a runner reaching base.  Perfect, right?  Not so much.  Eric Young, Jr. led off the game with a single on a 3-1 count, which seemed like nothing at the time.  Then, everyone started getting out.  According to Baseball Reference, only 18 pitchers have had a higher Game Score than Miller’s...

Shelby Miller makes early case for National League Rookie of the Year

The St. Louis Cardinals knew rookie right-handed starting pitcher Shelby Miller had talent since they drafted him No. 19 overall in the 2009 draft, but others in baseball questioned if the Houston-native’s maturity level would allow him to succeed at the sport’s highest level. Miller projected he would be the in big leagues within two years of being drafted. Well, it took an...

St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Shelby Miller pitches virtual Perfect Game

Shelby Miller completes the game with 1 hitCredit: Jeff Roberson/AP Twenty-seven up, twenty-seven down. The definition of a perfect game.  Unfortunately, if a leadoff single preceded the 27 outs, the record books won’t record it. Shelby Miller of the St. Louis Cardinals gave up a clean single to Eric Young Jr. (nobody in the crowd even batted an eyelash at the time), then did...

Shelby Miller: Ace On The Rise

Shelby Miller continues to dominate, 7 starts into 2013 Friday, May 10th, 2013, that will be a date that some 37,800 St. Louis Cardinals fans at Busch Stadium will remember for quite a while because young, talented Shelby Miller flat out dominated the Colorado Rockies last night. A leadoff single in the top of the first inning to Eric Young Jr. would be the only base runner...

Cardinals' Miller one-hits Rockies

Shelby Miller gave up a leadoff single then retired 27 in a row for his first career complete game, leading the St. Louis Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Eric Young Jr. had a line drive hit to right field to start the game for the Rockies but Miller (5-2) gave up nothing else in his first shutout. The right-hander struck out Young to end it with his 13th K...

Westbrook, Cardinals look for series split with Cubs

(AP) -- Jake Westbrook owns the lowest ERA in baseball, but a visit to Wrigley Field could put that in jeopardy. Westbrook looks to give the St. Louis Cardinals another strong effort on the mound in order to help them salvage a split of this two-game set with the archrival Chicago Cubs on Wednesday. The Cardinals (20-12) have the best rotation in baseball with a 2.22 ERA, and Westbrook...

St. Louis Cardinals: Shelby Miller throw complete game shutout in 3-0 win over Colorado

The St. Louis Cardinals were expecting to see one of the best offensive teams in baseball this season as the Colorado Rockies came into Busch Stadium Friday night with the second most runs scored in all of baseball. Cardinals' rookie starter Shelby Miller didn't care. He carved the Rockies up in a dominating performance in the Cardinals 3-0 win. Miller was absolutely outstanding...

Pair is near perfect in major leagues

Pitching a one-hitter with no other baserunners in a big league game is rare. Getting two gems in one night, well, that may never have happened in major league history before Shelby Miller and Jon Lester each accomplished the feat. St. Louis Cardinals rookie Miller and Boston Red Sox left-hander Lester allowed just one hit and faced only 28 batters - no walks, hit batsmen or errors...

MLB Scores: Miller, Lester Toss One-Hitters, Overbay Leads Yankees

St. Louis Cardinals rookie Shelby Miller  and Boston Red Sox left-hander  Jon Lester both pitched one-hit complete-game shutouts to lead the night of strong pitching performances across Major League Baseball. Alex Cobb  made major league history when he became the first pitcher to strike out  13 batters in less than five innings. Hisashi Iwakuma struck out 9/7 innings to lead...

Root Sports has an opportunity to make things right by bringing back Tom Helmer

Root Sports should bring back Tom Helmer when Joel Klatt leaves. The Colorado Rockies got dominated by Shelby Miller to start out their six-game road trip. After Eric Young, Jr. led off the game with a single, the Rockies didn't reach base again. The good news is that the pitching staff is still looking good. Jon Garland is proving to be more than a flash in the pan. He gave the...
