Oklahoma City ripped the Portland Trail Blazers, 103-83, putting the one-and-half games back from the top-seeded San Antonio Spurs, who dropped a game to their in-state rival Houston Rockets. Oklahoma City needed a big second half to over come the Blazers, who hung tight with the Thunder for the first 24 minutes. Defense was huge, as recognized by Thunder head coach Scott Brooks. The defense really picked up as the game went along. Going into this game you knew that they had five guys that score almost 14 points or above so everybody had to do their job and guard tonight. I thought our defense was really good in the second half. - Scott Brooks (via the Associated Press) Kevin Durant led the Thunder with a game-high 24 points and team-high 10 rebounds. Russell Westbrook was not far behind with 21 points and nine assists. Wreaking havoc down low was Serge Ibaka, who was 7-of-9 from the field, scoring 16 for Oklahoma City. Ibaka, also, had five blocks. Portland was led by rookie sensation Damian Lillard, finishing the night with 19 points, six assists, and four rebounds. The Trail Blazers featured five scorers in double figures, including former Thunder guard Eric Maynor. Portland's newest guard had 10 in his return to Chesapeake Energy Arena. The homecoming for Maynor was not a successful one for him, however, and the Thunder were the ones walking off the floor with a much-needed victory. Improving to 52-19 on the year, Oklahoma City is still in contention for the top-seed and home-court would be very beneficial to a Thunder team that still enjoys the best home crowd in the Association. Oklahoma City will be back in action against the Washington Wizards this Wednesday.
