The Detroit Tigers have signed pitcher Jeremy Bonderman to a minor league deal.
Bonderman, 30, spent the first eight years of his career with the Tigers before signing with Seattle this past offseason. The Mariners cut Bonderman after he made seven starts for them posting a 4.93 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP.
The right handed Bonderman is little more then depth at this point but there are worse options out there.
BEST OF MAXIM
DETROIT Miguel Cabrera, an accomplished amateur baseball player in Venezuela, taught his son how to play and love the game.
He stood in the dugout prior to Saturday nights game, watching Jose Miguel Cabrera, who goes by his middle name, take batting practice before the Detroit Tigers played the Texas Rangers. The proud father talked about the magnificent season his son is having...
DETROIT Pitching to Miguel Cabrera is a heart-pounding experience. The Detroit Tigers slugger is leading the majors in most hitting categories, as well as mound meetings.
Managers and pitching coaches trudge out to calm down pitchers, provide some sort of plan or a decision to walk him which has happened an American League-leading 60 times.
But most hesitantly pitch to him....
DETROIT Detroit Tigers right-hander Max Scherzers flirtation with perfection came to an end Saturday night in a 7-1 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Afterward, Scherzer was asked if there wasnt some relief experienced over ending all the questions he had to field as he kept winning and the record reached 13-0.
It was fun, Scherzer said with a wide smile. Are you kidding me?
Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder led off the 2013 Home Run Derby with five measly home runs. But, one of them may account for the coolest still frame of the night. He purposely (obviously) timed a swing to occur at the same time a plane was taking off from LaGuardia Airport.
It seems like every time the thought of trading one of the Diamondbacks top pitching prospects is brought up, it is immediately met with a comment remembering the trade that sent once top prospect Max Scherzer out of Arizona.
Detroit right-hander Justin Verlander left Sunday's game against the Texas Rangers with a tight right quad muscle, shortly after having his no-hit bid broken up in the seventh inning.
Verlander had already been replaced on the American League All-Star team by Baltimore's Chris Tillman. Under baseball's labor contract, pitchers who start on the Sunday before the All-Star...
Max Scherzer's unbeaten run ended Saturday night when the Texas Rangers tagged the Detroit All-Star with his first loss of the season, defeating the Tigers 7-1.
Scherzer (13-1) was trying to become the first pitcher in the majors to start 14-0 since Roger Clemens in 1986. He allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings, walking two and striking out six.
It was Scherzer&...
Each week, good or bad, we’ll look back at the biggest theme of the week that was for the Detroit Tigers.
With one half of baseball’s year already in the books, the Detroit Tigers in first place and several exciting moments happening along the way, we’re taking a breather and counting down the top five games from the first part of the season.
There’s certainly been low lights...
A popular band from Seattle sang, “run and tell all of the angels, this could take all night.” Well tonight in Seattle, the Angels were possibly thinking that this game could take all night to finally end, as the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim 8-3.
The Mariners put a nice eight to nothing cushion for Joe Saunders to work with into the seventh inning which...
Felix Hernandez threw eight shutout innings and Justin Smoak drove in four runs off Los Angeles starter Jered Weaver, including a three-run homer, in the Seattle Mariners' 6-0 win over the Angels on Saturday night.
Smoak had an RBI single in the fourth inning that gave Seattle the lead, then provided the big blow in the sixth to cap a two-out rally. Kendrys Morales and Kyle...
Max Scherzer's season got even better Monday.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland announced that Scherzer, who is 13-1 with a 3.19 ERA, will start Tuesday's All-Star Game.
"Thirteen-and one Max Scherzer, I don't think I need to explain it any more than that," Leyland told the assembled media in New York.
After his start Saturday against the Texas Rangers, his first...
DETROIT (AP) -- Justin Verlander held Texas hitless until the seventh inning, and the Detroit Tigers backed their ace with three home runs in a 5-0 victory over the Rangers on Sunday.
Mitch Moreland's two-out double to right-center broke up Verlander's bid for his third career no-hitter. Verlander (10-6) left the game after the seventh with a tight right quad muscle, having...
51-42, 1st place, 1.5 games ahead of Cleveland.
OK, that didn’t go so well. I look at it as Scherzer losing 4-1, let down considerably by his teammates. (Is Alburquerque even worth mentioning? No.) The bright spots would seem to be Phil Coke (the inevitable response to being singled out for criticism in a game post – guess we need to keep it up, guys) and an RBI from Hernan Perez...
I don’t remember ever being this relieved to see the All-Star Break. Although I probably say that every year, this year I really mean it. Between the injuries and the fatigue that seems to have infected the remaining players lately, I’m ready for my boys to have a break. I need one too.
The Rangers were nearly no-hit today in Detroit. Not really a surprising statement,...
Staying Power OK, so by now everyone knows what Chris Davis and Miguel Cabrera are doing. Davis’s 37 homers before the break are the second-most all time, second only to Barry Bonds’s 39 in 2001 (the year he broke the single-season home run record with 73 dingers in a season). However, when Bonds hit 73 HR, [...]
