A day after he declared that “everything’s fine” news broke that Detroit Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder filed to end his marriage in May. According to court records in Orange County Fla. Fielder filed a dissolution-of-marriage case on May 28 asking a judge to end his marriage to Chanel Fielder. Lawyers for both parties could not immediately be reached for comment today. In the latest filing with the court Tuesday Chanel Fielder asked for her attorney fees and costs to be covered. The couple has two sons Haven and Jadyn. In a radio interview Wednesday Tigers teammate Torii Hunter suggested that something off the field could be affecting Prince Fielder’s performance. Told that Hunter’s comments had become a story back in Detroit Fielder said: “Yeah? Well I’m gonna turn the story off. It’s fine. Everything’s fine.” Nothing’s affecting him? “Nah” Fielder said. Asked whether he felt that it was nobody’s business anyway Fielder said: “Yeah you’re right.” Fielder entered Wednesday’s game at U.S. Cellular Field hitting .219 with five home runs and 27 RBIs during his last 50 games. He hit .313 with 30 home runs in 162 games last season with a .412 on-base percentage and a .528 slugging percentage. Entering Tuesday he was hitting .261 with 17 home runs in 117 games with a .352 on-base percentage and a .432 slugging percentage. Hunter made his comments on the “Ryan and Rico” show on WMGC-FM (105.1). “This guy’s a strong guy he’s out there everyday won’t come out of the lineup no matter what’s going on off the field or on the field” Hunter said about Fielder. “I mean he’s a strong guy and us as players we know what’s really going on and we appreciate him going out there every day despite … .” At that point Ermanni asked whether Hunter thought everyone should “back off Prince Fielder a little bit right now.” “Yeah definitely” Hunter said. “I can’t get into” circumstances. Asked about the radio interview before Wednesday’s game Hunter said: “I was just saying that everybody goes through something. They were talking about Prince and I said ‘Man you don’t know what’s going on in that man’s life.’ Anything could be going on but that guy goes out there every day and he plays the game hard. But nobody knows what’s really going on in his personal life.”
