Pat Leonard at the Daily News has this quote from John Tortorella on the Rangers building a winner from within...

"Well that's how you build. That's how you become, I think, a good organization," John Tortorella said Tuesday morning at the Coliseum. "You keep your kids, you keep developing your kids, you add some pieces along the way, but you just don't keep on turning it over. And I think (GM) Glen (Sather) has done a great job of that, with the core of our team, they've really been together now for three years, three or four years in some instances."

...as you all know my main concern with the Richards signing was that the Rangers would now be tempted to move some of their kids to bring in a veteran at the deadline, but it's quotes like this that puts me, at least a little, at ease.

...and Torts deserves all the credit for this. He has preached developing the kids since he's come on board. Kudos to Sather as well for finally buying in.

Henrik Lundqvist adds this on the benefit of having consistent roster...

"I think it helps the guys have been around and playing for Coach for more than two years, and everybody understands what he wants," said Henrik Lundqvist, one of eight current Rangers originally drafted by the franchise. "If you look at other teams when it starts good, it improves after a few years when guys have been together for a little bit, and then you add some key vets and that's what we've been doing this year. It definitely helps - I just don't know how much - but it is a comfort level to have pretty much the same group as last year."
