PLAYERS: Rod Streater
TEAMS: Oakland Raiders
After watching game film of Sunday’s loss to the Colts, I am convinced Oakland Raiders wide receiver Rod Streater will have a huge year. Streater caught 5 passes for 73 yards but I expect more from Streater in the coming weeks. The 6’2 193 pound Streater went undrafted out of Temple because of lack of production, even though Streater showed great athleticism at his pro day by running a 4.52 40-yard dash and having a 37 ½ in vertical. Last season, Streater showed promise by catching 39 passes for 584 yards but expect him to demolish those numbers this season. While most wide receivers would lose production because of the switch to Terrelle Pryor from Carson Palmer, Streater will actually fit in better with Pryor at quarterback. On the first play from scrimmage the scrambling Pryor found Streater for a 9 yard pass because Streater rolled his route down the middle of the field. On four of the five Streater receptions, Pryor was scrambling in the backfield when he threw the pass to Streater. What makes Streater such a dangerous target for Pryor is that Streater is bigger and faster than most slot receivers but has the same route running skills. While Streater won’t necessarily line up in the slot all the time, he was constantly motioning to help clear some space for him on his receptions. In fact, on two of the three times that Pryor’s throws to Streater were not completed, Streater was not motioning but lined up as a typical outside receiver. From the moment Streater strapped on his silver and black helmet he has astonished the coaching staff with his route running ability and overall football IQ.  Offensive coordinator Greg Olsen will allow Streater to use his elite route running skills throughout the season. Don’t be surprised if Streater has more than 80 receptions this season for the silver and black. With Pryor’s athleticism buying Streater time to find the open seam, it will be nearly impossible for opposing defenses to lock up Streater for more than a few seconds. Can the Raiders be Consistently Excellent in Week 2?

The Raiders seemed to take my last article to heart, nearly taking the football world by storm and upsetting the Colts‘ home opener. While fans of other teams have jumped on the bandwagon against the Jaguars, history hasn’t really been kind to the Raiders in games they were supposed to win. Over the past few seasons, the Raiders have had a tendency to show up in games where they...

The Fall Of DMC: Darren McFadden Is No Longer A Star

For the second straight season, Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden has gotten off to an awful start. McFadden was wholly ineffective against the Colts as he rushed for 48 yards on 17 carries. While most observers would brush off McFadden’s performance as one bad game, ask yourself when was the last time McFadden had a memorable performance. We can no longer blame McFadden’s...

Oakland Raiders Defense Must Stay Aggressive Against Jacksonville Jaguars

Despite a 21-17 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the Oakland Raiders showed it has developed what it has been lacking for the past few seasons – the ability to rush the passer. Defensive coordinator Jason Tarver’s squad sacked Andrew Luck four times and recorded five tackles for loss of yards. Unfortunately, they couldn’t make one crucial stop on defense which allowed...

The Slow Road To the NFL (Pun Intended): Who Is Oakland Raiders Tight End Jeron Mastrud

Oakland Raiders tight end Jeron Mastrud was an afterthought in the Raiders tight end discussion this off-season, but he wound up beating out Richard Gordon for the final spot on the team. Most members of the Raider Nation probably never heard of Mastrud until his big and painfully slow 41 yard reception against the Indianapolis Colts in the 4th quarter. While most tight ends would...

Give Ford The Rock: Oakland Raiders Must Find A Way To Utilize Jacoby Ford

The 2013 Oakland Raiders will be equipped with some of the most explosive offensive weapons in the NFL. While Reggie McKenzie has moved away from the Al Davis philosophy of drafting the fastest player possible, the Raiders still have the fastest quarterback in the NFL and the fastest wide receivers in the league. Now that the explosive Terrelle Pryor is at the helm of the Raiders’...

Breaking Down Darren McFadden’s (Weak) One Performance

I wrote an article yesterday saying that Darren McFadden is no longer a star player for the Oakland Raiders. Tonight I re-watched the game film of McFadden’s week one performance and my opinion on him has not changed. On Sunday McFadden carried the ball 17 times for 48 yards which game him a pathetic 2.8 yards per carry. McFadden was also not a major factor in the passing game...

Marquette King Era Begins For Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders have new faces throughout the roster but the biggest change has to be the presence of Marquette King as the Raiders punter. For over a decade, the Raider Nation has been used to seeing Sebastian Janikowski and Shane Lechler booting the ball over the field. A lot has been expected of King this year because of his powerful leg. Anybody who has seen King punt knows...

10 Lessons We Learned From NFL Week 1

Week 1 of the highly-anticipated 2013 NFL regular season is in the books.  As expected, we witnessed just about everything but the kitchen sink—from hard-nosed defensive snoozefests like the Seattle Seahawks’ 12-7 road win over the Carolina Panthers to exciting thrillers that left fans on edge of their seats like the San Francisco 49ers‘ 34-28 victory over the Green Bay Packers...

A total of Nine black quarterbacks will start week 1

We all know the game is changing. It is becoming a position of speed and agilty rather than just a gun slinger mentality at the quarterback position. Well this week in the NFL a total of 9 black quarterbacks will start. Here is a list: EJ Manuel – Bills Colin Kaepernick – Niners Russell Wilson […]

Tyvon Branch not practicing for the Raiders

According to Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times,  Raiders safety Tyvon Branch was not practicing today. Strong safety Tyvon Branch also is not practicing. — Steve Corkran (@CorkOnTheNFL) September 11, 2013 As soon as we find out why Branch was held out,  we’ll update this post.   Need NFL Tickets? Pryor wants to repay Al Davis

Terrelle Pryor may have finally arrived. Yes Pryor still struggles to read defenses, and makes most of his plays with his legs, but Pryor is a long way from the guy he was when he was banished by Ohio State, and selected in the supplemental draft. Pryor has come a long way and has Al Davis to thank.  According to Peter King and TheMMQB, Pryor says “he owes Davis, and wants to...

Why is the bar so low for Terrelle Pryor?

Everyone doubts Terrelle Pryor can help the Raiders this season, and I think a lot of people have happily gone along with this assessment, because haha, the Raiders, amirite? Pryor won the starting job from Matt Flynn this preseason, but around the league, he hasn’t received many plaudits and hasn’t mustered much confidence. But why? What’s the reason nobody thinks Pryor is...

Al Davis' maligned pick thrives for Raiders

Ran into the ghost of Al Davis after Sunday's game lurking in a hallway in the bowels of the Colts' massive stadium. I asked Davis if he was glad to see his Raiders back on a positive track as shown in their 21-17 loss to the Colts a game the super-underdog Raiders almost pulled out of a 14-0 fire. Although I didn't mention "fire" because who knows where Davis...
