Martin Truex Jr. claimed the pole starting spot for Saturday’s Samsung Mobile 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway during pole qualifying on Friday evening. His fast lap was clocked at 28.366 seconds.
“It just means a lot for me to get a pole for these guys,” Truex said. “We’ve come a long way. We’re going to go now and celebrate this for a little bit.”
Matt Kenseth qualified second with a 28.399-second lap, and Roush Fenway Racing teammate, Greg Biffle was third with a fast lap of 28.403 seconds. Mark Martin was fourth, and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top-five in qualifying.
Forty-six drivers made qualifying attempts to claim 43 starting spots. Stacy Compton, Joe Nemechek and David Stremme were the three drivers who failed to get spots on the starting grid for Saturday’s race. It was the first DNQ (did not qualify) for Stremme this season.
