Tuukka Rask has been stellar between the pipes for the Bruins so far, so coach Claude Julien appears ready to ride his goalie’s hot streak. Rask will start his fourth straight game to start the season on Friday night, with Rick DiPietro getting the nod for the Islanders for his first start since 2011. It would appear to be a matchup slanted in the Bruins’ favor, but DiPietro is the ultimate “rested” goalie and could surprise some observers if he returns to the form New York hopes he can. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette has his interest piqued by this one. See why in the above video. Join NESN Nation: In-game home page | Twitter | Facebook

Ty Anderson: Live-Blog: DiPietro versus Rask in Boston

(Welcome to the TD Garden for tonight's game between the Boston Bruins and visiting New York Islanders..) It's been over five years since Rick DiPietro beat the Boston Bruins. You'd have to go all the way back to Nov. 24, 2007, when the Massachusetts-born goaltender stopped 20 of 21 shots faced in a 2-1 victory over the Black-and-Gold. P.J Axelsson scored Boston'...

Second Look: Tuukka Rask making snow angels all night long

Tuukka Rask can put up fantastic numbers. He's proven that over the years while being Tim Thomas' backup/1B (or was he 1A?) goaltender. 2013 - 1.95 GAA, .926 SV% 2012-2011 - 2.05 GAA, .929 SV% 2011-2010 - 2.67 GAA, .918 SV% 2010-2009 - 1.97 GAA, .931 SV% The two big questions coming into this season was how his groin would hold up and could he perform...

Boston Bruins steal a point in New York

Tuukka Rask’s play was not enough for the Bruins to win two points in New York The other day I wrote about how in the past the Boston Bruins came out slow and tired during matinee games, likely due to a night previous of crazy partying or whatever the kids do these days. That didn’t happen on Monday afternoon even though it was an early-season matinee and the opponent wasn...

Rick DiPietro, Alexei Yashin Contracts Among Top 10 Worst Deals in NHL History (Photos)

Hockey players make peanuts compared to the all-stars of the NBA, MLB and NFL, but that certainly doesn’t mean there aren’t a handful of high-rollers skating at an arena near you. For every superstar that’s earning his multimillions, there are about two or three ripping their owner off, for lack of a better term. Baseball has its Alex Rodriguezs and Barry Zitos while the NBA...

Game 4 Preview: Islanders -- Rask slated for fourth start

The Bruins return to the Garden after their brief visit to New York. Against the Rangers the defense, well, looked like this: We expect that to not happen again tonight against the NY Islanders. A Claude Julien team just doesn't have long stretches of awful defense like that. Expect tonight's defense to be a lot more like this: The Islanders are currently...

Tuukka Is A Bear- Bruins Loose 4-3 in OT

Tuukka Rask made some big saves tonight, but the defense left him hanging a little too much. NewYork City, Madison Square Garden. The Rangers came out hungry as Marian Gaborik scored two goals, the lead was 2-0 going into the intermission. The second period started as Lucic came cruising down the lane to get stuffed by Henrik. The Bruins would continue the energy as they would...

Rangers Finally Playing Like Stanley Cup Favorites They Are as Bruins Withstand Furious Assault (Video)

The Rangers are expected to contend for a Stanley Cup this season. Problem is, their first two games of the year didn’t do a whole lot to make that expectation a reality. On Wednesday, though, the Blueshirts came out firing against the Bruins and Tuukka Rask, and Boston was probably lucky to be trailing by only two goals after one period. NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette is impressed...

Give Tuukka a break

I stated before the season that if the Bruins win a cup this year, it will be because Tuukka Rask stepped up and played like one of the best goalies in the NHL. Thus far, he is proving to be up to the task. In 3 games, Tuukka has stopped 75 of 81 shots, a .926 save percentage and 1.95 GAA. That is the type of goaltending that will keep the Bruins in contention until season's...

Keys to the Game Vs. Islanders

The Bruins come back home from New York city to go head to head with the New York Islanders. The Islanders are 2-1 losing the season opener to the New Jersey Devils. The Islanders beat then beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-3 and then beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 7-4. The Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro hasn't played yet this season. DiPietro, who has 9 years left on his 67.5 million...

Tuukka Rask Robs Rick Nash & Marian Gaborik With Sprawling Save

With just under a minute left in regulation in a 3-3 game between the Bruins and Rangers on Wednesday night, Tuukka Rask likely single-handedly earned the B’s a point when he was able to surpress a Rick Nash & Marian Gaborik scoring push with an unbelievable sprawling save. Nash pulled off a nifty move to get around Milan Lucic and fire a shot on net, one which Rask turned...

Is Tuukka The Real Deal?

It's Tuukka Time After 4 early games for the black and gold the B's stand atop the Eastern Conference at 3-0-1 (7pts). A key component of the B's early success has been the superb penalty kill and the man between the pipes, Tuukka Rask. As of today, the Bruins have 12 Goals For and 8 Goals Against. If you average that out, that is 2 goals per game allowed and 3 goals...

Ty Anderson: The Takeaway: Boston learns how to Dougie in win over Islanders

After stealing a point in New York City, but failing to snatch the second one -- both literally and figuratively thanks to the Rangers’ Marian Gaborik’s baseball-swing of a Tuukka Rask rebound in overtime -- the Boston Bruins returned to home-ice for a rare Friday night showdown against the New York Islanders. Facing off against an Islander team they took three-of...

Bruins 4, Islanders 2

Zdeno Chara scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period and Tuukka Rask made 24 saves, lifting the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 win over the New York Islanders on Friday night. Patrice Bergeron, Shawn Thornton and Gregory Campbell also scored for Boston, which improved to 3-0-1. New York's Keith Aucoin had his first career two-goal game, and has scored three times in two...

Dee Karl: Isles on Broad Street

Are you ready? Are they? The first of this season's back-to-back tilts in tough cities will be an excellent test for an Isles squad just getting used to each other. The goals are coming from more than just the top line, so Jack Capuano is finally getting what he wants. Will the question then be, can he get what he wants out of his back-up. All pundits suggest this...
