Minnesota Twins first baseman Justin Morneau is in the final year of his current contract with the team. He’s off to a decent start, as he’s at least been able to remain healthy so far. Still, Morneau and the Twins have yet to discuss a contract extension, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500. A source close to Twins first baseman Justin Morneau said this week there still have not been any contractual talks between the two sides. Morneau is a free agent after the season. Morneau is 32 years old and will make $14 million this season. He played in more than 100 games for the first time since 2009 last season, but his numbers still didn’t mirror his previous career norms that earning him MVP consideration from 2006-08 and the award itself in 2006. After his awful 2011 campaign, Morneau rebounded to hit .267/.333/.440 with 26 doubles and 19 home runs over 570 plate appearances last year.
