Hairston North Carolina star guard P.J. Hairston will start the season on the sideline, serving out a suspension for an unspecified amount of time after he was arrested and charged with driving without a license, possessing marijuana and carrying a handgun. But according to Jack Halperin, a UNC academic tutor, the punishment is nowhere near severe enough. Halperin wrote an open letter to Roy Williams in The Daily Tar Heel, calling it a “disgraceful decision” to allow Hairston to keep his roster spot. He also resigned over the matter. Roy, after 23 years as an academic tutor, and after going through the devastating football scandal, I am resigning in protest of your disgraceful decision to allow P.J. Hairston to remain on the team. If I were arrested driving with no license, illegal drugs and a gun in a felon’s car, my employment at this University would end immediately. Hairston’s DTH headline quote was, “I will play this season.” Since when does the criminal decide his fate? Jack ...

With that depth comes some difficult decisions that will have to be made when it comes to determining who the starters will be next season. There are a bunch of position battles going on as we speak, especially in the frontcourt. Point Guard: Marcus...

Why are North Carolina's ACC football teams so bad?

It’s been a good year in the ACC. Clemson and Florida State are in the thick of the national title chase. Miami is undefeated and in the top 15. Virginia Tech has moved into the top 25. There are marquee wins over Georgia and Florida. Yes it’s been a good year in the ACC unless you are an ACC team from the state of North Carolina. This isn’t something new either. Except for...
