According to reports, the Phillies have inked former Rockies starter Aaron Cook to a minor-league contract that could be worth $1.6 million at the major league level.
Cook, 33, was awful last season for the Red Sox, posting a 5.65 ERA in 14 starts before being banished. He is a sinkerball pitcher who doesn’t walk or strike anyone out. Cook relies solely on the groundball, and if that ain’t workin’, look out.
Cook’s best season came in 2008 when he was a National League All Star selection with Colorado, posting a 16-9 record with a 3.96 ERA.
This move is strictly for minor league depth, but as last year proved, it’s important to have.
