ATLANTA Braves infielder Paul Janish and the team batboy had a little fun at the expense of the Atlanta players on Wednesday, using the illusion of a live bat (the mammal, not the piece of wood) to spook teammates in the dugout. During the second inning of Braves-Phillies, with Brandon Beachy on the mound and two outs, play was temporarily halted, so officials could safely discard a bat that was momentarily grounded at Turner Field. After a few seconds of inspection between the umps and Beachy, Janish then entered the scene and cleanly snagged the bat with his glove and carried it over to the batboy. The Braves batboy approached Janish with a white towel, in hopes of corralling the bat; but at the 0:23 mark, the medium-sized mammal apparently flew away. However, that didn't stop Janish from staying in character, pretending to transfer the bat to the batboy's white towel. The batboy then continued the impromptu prank, carefully handling the towel and taking it to the dugout, in hopes of enticing one of the Braves players to inspect the matter. Only Dan Uggla took the bait, apprehensively getting close to the bat ... before realizing the Janishbatboy ruse.
