Since Ed Orgeron took over as USC’s head football coach after Lane Kiffin’s firing, he has tried to completely change the culture of the program. He has done things like adding desserts back to the training table, opening up practice to the media and family members and has also tried to make football more fun for the players. But maybe the most important change has been the addition of guest speakers to team meetings every week. Last week before USC faced Arizona, Trojan legend Marcus Allen talked to the team. This week, future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis stopped by and talked to the team. In the above video Lewis gives an awesome motivational speech imploring players to get themselves noticed for their effort, not just their talent. He also discusses how players must get rid of distractions that won’t help them get where they want to go. In probably the main takeaway from the speech, Lewis said the following: “People don’t realize what you have to give up to become great. What sacrifices you’ve got to make to become great. What promises you’ve got to make to yourself to become great. Greatness ain’t a thought process, greatness is a lifestyle. It’s what you live like.” USC faces archrival Notre Dame on Saturday in South Bend.
