It'll go down in the books as just another assist, but Vladimir Tarasenko's effort to set up Andy McDonald for a goal against the Minnesota Wild deserves a bit more recognition.  Tarasenko chased down a puck that was cleared out of the St. Louis zone by David Backes. Though Minnesota's Justin Falk beat him to the puck, Tarasenko used his stick to disrupt the play, causing Falk to lose control and tumble to the ice. Falk wanted a penalty on the play, but it was deemed that he fell trying to reach back for the puck, not because of anything Tarasenko did.  Tarasenko then reached back around Falk and got off a one-handed pass to Andy McDonald. McDonald did the rest, sliding the puck into the back of the net on a shot that Niklas Backstrom probably should have saved.  When he was asked about the play after the game, Tarasenko said it was lucky. Fans may beg to differ as his ability to track the puck down, win it from the defenseman and get off a pass looked like i...

St. Louis Blues have impressive penalty kill streak going too

While most of the headlines rightfully point out how impressive Brian Elliott has been in net during the last three games, all of which shutouts, the St. Louis Blues have another streak going too. The Blues have an impressive penalty kill streak going as well, which has also helped the Blues win six games in a row and solidify themselves as true contender once again in the Western...

St. Louis Blues: Brian Elliott posts third consecutive shutout in win over Minnesota

Earlier this season, St. Louis Blues goalie Brian Elliott was struggling mightily and had been basically relegated to the press-box after the emergence of rookie Jake Allen. After a short "conditioning" stint in Peoria and following the aftermath of Jaroslav Halak's groin injury, Elliott has been incredible. So incredible, that he posted his third consecutive shutout...

Confident Elliott leads Blues vs Blackhawks

(AP) -- Brian Elliott is playing with a different kind of confidence now for the St. Louis Blues. Elliott is expected to try to become the first Blues goalie to post four straight shutouts Sunday, but it probably won't be easy with a visit by a league-leading Chicago Blackhawks team that has won four straight. St. Louis (23-15-2) rested Elliott in favor of Jake Allen in Friday...

Blues have issues to address despite recent winning streak

The recent six-game winning streak by the St. Louis Blues could not have come at a better time. The team was floundering, struggling to hold on to one of the West's final playoff spots. When the calendar flipped to April, things changed. Brian Elliott found his 2011-12 form in net and the St. Louis defense played shutdown hockey. The result was an impressive stretch where the...

Brian Elliott posts third consecutive shutout, silences his critics

Remember all of those fans (and even some writers) that were suggesting and even insisting that the Blues trade Brian Elliott? They're all pretty quiet right now, aren't they?  Elliott posted his third consecutive shutout with a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild. As the Blues picked up their sixth consecutive victory, Elliott collected his fifth consecutive "...

(AP) -- The St. Louis Blues have been getting stellar goaltending from Brian Elliott, but it's rookie Jake Allen's turn to be between the pipes. Allen is expected to start Friday night as the Blues look for a seventh straight victory when they visit the Columbus Blue Jackets. St. Louis (23-14-2) is riding its longest win streak since a seven-game run Oct. 22-Nov. 7, 2010...

AHL Scoring Race

Slightly over two weeks ago when I last looked at the AHL scoring race nothing was clear.  There was a three-way tie atop the race between Gustav Nyquist of the Grand Rapids Griffins (Detroit Red Wing affiliate), Jeff Taffe of the Hershey Bears (Washington Capital affiliate) and TJ Hensick of the Peoria Rivermen (St Louis Blue affiliate).  Three more players were within two points...
