Remember everyone, just because someone’s opinion differs from yours doesn’t make them wrong and you right. Especially on a day like today—where soldiers gave their lives so you could live with the freedoms you do—we have to respect that each and every person is entitled to their beliefs and opinions. So when Adrian Peterson says he’s not a proponent of gay marriage, so be it. The Vikings running back was on Sirius/XM NFL Radio this past Thursday with Bruce Murray and Amani Toomer, and when asked whether or not punter Chris Kluwe was, as some people have speculated, released because of his outspokenness regarding the issue of gay marriage, Peterson had this to say… “To each his own. I’m not with it. But I have relatives that are gay. I’m not biased towards them. I still treat them the same. I love them. But again, I’m not with that. That’s not something I believe in. But to each his own.” “I’m sure the Vikings organization did not release him based on that. They know Kluwe. They’ve been knowing him for a long time. And they know he’s outspoken. But it hurt me to see him leave. He was a good friend of mine and a really cool guy, man. Probably one of the smartest guys I’ve ever been around, man. Different.” I tend to side with Kluwe on the issue of gay marriage, but still have no problem with Peterson’s stance on the issue. The subject is a polarizing one for sure, and while you would hope that people would understand it’s about equality for all, the idea of two people of the same sex getting married can be in direct opposition to others’ beliefs, be it on personal or religious grounds. People just have to accept that while opinions will differ, it doesn’t mean that they’re wrong and you’re right, or vice versa. If Chris Kluwe and Adrian Peterson can be on the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to gay marriage, yet still remain good friends despite their differences, then why can’t the rest of us?
