With Matt Cassel now the backup quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings behind Christian Ponder, former backup QB Joe Webb has been moved to full time wide receiver. Although the future of the quarterback position in Minnesota is a bit hazy at the moment, it definitely won’t be Joe Webb.   Head coach Leslie Frazier told Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that the move had been made right after the draft. “We had been talking about it for a while, and we made the decision that this was the way to go after we had our draft,” Frazier said. Webb was the starting quarterback in Minnesota’s 24-10 playoff loss to the Green Bay Packers this year, where he completed 11 of 30 passes for 180 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. This isn’t Webb’s first time that he will be playing wide receiver, as he was a QB/receiver combo while playing in college at Alabama-Birmingham and was drafted as a wide receiver in the 6th round of the 2010 draft by Minnesota.   “It’s going to be very interesting,” Webb said when asked about the switch “I haven’t played it since my rookie minicamp, but I think I can adjust to it pretty good. You just have to put in a lot of work. Coach Stew (WR’s coach George Stewart) will do a lot of that with me, so we’ll see what happens. You have a whole different world at quarterback, but I think that’s going to help me out there at receiver, having been at quarterback and knowing the coverage and how DBs run their plays.” Webb will join 2013 1st round pick Cordarrelle Patterson and veteran former Packers WR Greg Jennings on the WR corps for the Vikings in 2013.   Webb showed 4.4 speed coming out of UAB as a draft prospect in 2010 and has caught 33 passes for 480 yards and four touchdowns total in his college and pro careers. Only one of those catches (a nine-yard catch against Green Bay in 2011) was in the NFL.   What do you think? Is Joe Webb a good fit for the Vikings at WR instead of sitting the bench as a quarterback? How will this affect Minnesota in 2013?
