Fox Sports North:
Following their recent tradition, the Minnesota Vikings have begun to sign their first-round picks on the day the team is reporting to Mankato, Minn., for the start of training camp.
Last year, No. 4 overall pick Matt Kalil signed on reporting day, and defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, selected with the No. 23 overall pick in April's draft signed Thursday. Floyd is the first of three first-round selections for Minnesota to sign.
"He's quick twitch," Vikings defensive coordinator Alan Williams said of Floyd at minicamp in June. "He can anchor in the run. He's very disruptive at the (3-technique) and he has good pass rush moves. I know his stats may not have shown it. But he's been tremendous in these (organized team activities). He's another one we can't wait to get the pads on to kind of see what happens when we get the pads on, if he's still productive.
"And the one thing about him," Williams added of Floyd, "I was just mentioning a second ago about young guys playing situational football, and the situations are new to them and they make some mistakes. But he's game ready. He had a good coach at Florida and they prepared him well. So it's not too much different what we're doing here so a lot of things translate over to what he did in college. We're looking for good things from him."
The Vikings are still waiting on cornerback Xavier Rhodes (the No. 25 pick) and receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (No. 29) to agree to terms on their rookie contracts. With Floyd signing, there are eight first-round picks left to sign.
Floyd was the highest-drafted defensive tackle by Minnesota since it selected Kevin Williams No. 9 overall in 2009. Floyd is the likely heir to the six-time Pro Bowler William's starting spot. Williams reworked his contract this offseason to guarantee his 2013 salary, but had the 2014 season voided from the contract in the process.
Floyd, 22, earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2012. He finished his three seasons at Florida with 115 tackles, 26 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He's expected to mainly backup Williams in his first season and be part of a rotation.
Floyd was projected to go as high as No. 3 in the draft, but unexpectedly fell to Minnesota at No. 23.
"Nervousness that he fell, and how much we were going to have to wait," Williams said of his feelings during the draft. "We had a little space in there and he kept falling and falling. And boy I'll tell you, when it got down to close to us, just nervousness that, 'Hey, he's right within our grasp, but is he really going to be there when we pick.?' Jubilation, you name it. We felt it when we had it. He's a good, good football player."

"YEAH, IT’S BEING USED"
Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has no doubts that HGH is used by some NFL players, saying, "They’re going to try to get that edge, get that advantage."
MANKATO, Minn. A welcome sight as the Minnesota Vikings began training camp practices Friday was the lack of players relegated to the sidelines, in particular starting center John Sullivan, who missed the team's offseason workouts because he was recovering from microfracture surgery on his left knee.
Sullivan, who played through the injury at the end of last season and then...
SHUT YOUR STUPID MOUTH. Football is back. And all your arguments are invalid.
Time with the family? Ha! Good luck, nerd. Gonna maybe catch a Twins game at the end of the season? Sure! If you want to be punched in your dumb, fat face. Maybe you'll go out on a boat and enjoy the last days of summer? Well ... Yeah, probably I guess. That's likely fine. BUT YOU BETTER GOD...
MANKATO, Minn. -- Adrian Peterson heard the skepticism from people last year, even opposing players, as he returned from reconstructive knee surgery to challenge the NFL's single-season rushing mark and win the MVP.
He heard the whispers that his recovery was owed to more than just genetics and hard work. He knew there were rumblings that maybe he wasn't "clean."...
Vikings Training Camp Cornerback Battle
The Vikings cornerback position took on a small facelift since last year, but when all is said and done they could be better in 2013 than 2012. The top 3 corners for the Vikings will be veteran Chris Cook, rookie Xavier Rhodes and 2nd year corner Josh Robinson. After these three guys it is a crap shoot on which corners will make the final roster...
Hello PJD fans, followers, and lurkers. If you are a periodic reader of this site and my name seems unfamiliar to you right about now … let me introduce myself. No, I'm not the next "woman" to give my "view looking in." And no, I didn't hack my way into the system to take over and rule PJD (yet). I'm definitely not a sexy Vikings cheerleader, nor...

Embracing the challenge has always been a part of Adrian Peterson's persona.
Following his quick comeback from reconstructive knee surgery, surpassing the 2,000-yard mark and the league MVP award last season for the Minnesota Vikings, Peterson said Friday he'd eagerly accept another test: for human growth hormone.
The NFL and the players union have been working on an agreement...
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Coach Mike McCarthy has heard the comments of former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings. With Jennings continually taking jabs at the team that he played seven years for, McCarthy had a comeback ready for the seemingly scorned 29-year-old who signed this offseason with the division-rival Minnesota Vikings.
"When you put on that purple, something...
Greg Jennings has a new contract, lots of money, and a new place to call home.
Jennings though hasn’t forgotten where he came from, and has been delivering scathing commentary regarding his former team in Green Bay.
Jennings once again reached out to the Star Tribune to give his opinion, and during his interview, he stated that he felt “it was difficult for Aaron Rodgers to hold...
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy isn't too concerned with the verbal jabs Greg Jennings has been taking at Aaron Rodgers.
Jennings signed with the Minnesota Vikings in the offseason, the latest big-name Packer to join Green Bay's archrivals. McCarthy joked Thursday that, ''When you put on that purple, something happens to you.'' Brett Favre wound up...
