According to Arthur Staple at Newsday, defenseman Wade Redden has full intentions of attending Rangers training camp in September. Redden is currently entering the fourth year of a six-year contract that will pay him $16.5 million over the next four seasons. The 34-year-old spent all of last season playing with the Connecticut Whale of the AHL.
"We'll continue to work on his situation," Redden's agent wrote in an email to Staple today. "But the plans are to be at New York's training camp in September."
Don't be alarmed by this news. The Rangers obviously do not have Redden in their plans for 2011-12, nor do they have the cap space to accommodate his $6. 5 million annual hit. GM Glen Sather will likely demote the veteran blue-liner to the AHL just as he did last year, unless of course Redden decides to walk away from the remaining three years of his contract.
