What Will The Fans Do When Reid And McNabb Return?

Posted July 09, 2013

This is the question I asked a friend of mine from work and he flat out booed. I guess I can see this both ways. On the one hand you have the coach who has more wins in Eagles history, and the best quarterback of the teams modern era here so it would make little sense to boo these men. On the other hand this is Philly. It's a town that demands a lot from their athletes and coaches and when they don't deliver they hear it. These two men didn't deliver the hardware and by right should be booed for it. Personally I think they deserve to be cheered. Don't get me wrong Andy Reid very much deserved to be fired for the incompetent mess he left in Philly. Chip Kelly has to pick up the pieces of the shattered Dream Team nightmare and somehow make a team out of the soft crybabies left by Reid. Still Reid won a lot of games here in Philly and though his demeanor and the fact he never won a Super Bowl doesn't mean we shouldn't give him a classy standing O. We would do that if not more for Buddy Ryan who has done far less with arguably more talent. The same goes for McNabb.

Okay since McNabb's handlers have stopped handling him, he's become the loop job everyone thought he was. Some of his recent comments and twitter remarks have been as Hollis Thomas recently stated "comical." The Eagles were also right to trade McNabb when they did. He was a washed up player and his play in Washington and Minnesota all but proved that. Still that doesn't mean he didn't provide us with some great memories. 4&26, the game on the broken leg, the game where he shook the entire Redskin defense out of their shorts, The 17 second bomb to Freddie Mitchel against the Cowboys, and the first SB appearance since 1980.

The bottom line is despite what transpired in the end with these two men, and despite some of the bad blood that still may exist, I don't see the point of booing these two men. I think they have worn the green proud and should be cheered. One last  cheer for all of the good years. I think we have booed them enough.
