Sometimes things get a little fuzzy after a night drinking at the pub. Here’s a friendly reminder of what you might have missed while you were drinking.
The Padres made the trip from Milwaukee after winning 3 of 4 on the road and watching the bats heat up probably feeling pretty good about themselves. That came to a crushing halt Friday night in Phoenix, where Eric Stults had his worst start of the year, giving up 7 runs (5 earned). Had he only given up 1 run the result would have been the same however as the previously red hot bats were quickly silenced by Randall Delgado. A complete game shutout for the Delgado was the first of his career and was one pitch away from a “Maddux.”
The shutout rendered the otherwise lackluster performance from Stults moot as the Padres could only muster three hits (but hey, Chase Headley had one!). On the brightside, dim as it may be, the Padres held Diamondback Paul Goldschmidt to an 0 for 5 day with 3 Ks.
