Minnesota Wild center Charlie Coyle will miss three to four weeks with a sprained knee. The Wild announced the timetable for Coyle's recovery on Sunday night. The second-year player was hurt Saturday night in the team's overtime loss to Anaheim. Left wing Jason Zucker was recalled from Iowa of the AHL to take Coyle's place. Zucker played in 20 games last season. Both Coyle and Zucker are 21, part of the Wild's promising young core. Coyle was centering the second line, between Dany Heatley and Nino Niederreiter. The Minnesota Wild announced Sunday night that Coyle suffered a sprained knee in Saturday night's 4-3 loss in overtime to the Anaheim Ducks and is expected to miss three to four weeks. Forward Jason Zucker was recalled from the Iowa Wild to fill Coyle...

Mathew Dumba gets over nerves in his NHL debut

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Mathew Dumba was in the NHL for the second straight season, but similar to last season, he was left to be a spectator in the Minnesota Wild's regular-season opener. Coach Mike Yeo could sense the nerves Dumba, Minnesota's 19-year-old defenseman, was playing with, even in practice. So instead of letting Dumba play in the season-opener on Thursday, Dumba...

Tony Dean: MNWild: All Eyes on Mathew Dumba’s Debut Tonight

I will be the first to admit that my own selfish wants and needs for Mathew Dumba to be in the NHL this season have created sky high expectations for this 19 year old kid tonight and beyond. The unadulterated truth is if the Wild unleash this kid on the NHL this year, every night he will create highlight reel plays and have Wild fans in the Excel Energy Center on the edge of their...

Wild need young players to take next step

When Los Angeles Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick looked up after surrendering his second goal of the first period Thursday night Jonas Brodin was huddled with Wild teammates celebrating his power-play goal. To Brodin's right was Jared Spurgeon to his left Charlie Coyle and between them were Nino Niederreiter and Mikael Granlund. That's a unit of three 21-year-olds with 20...

With Game 1 of the FULL 2013-2014 season under their belts, the Minnesota Wild move on to face off against the Anaheim Ducks in Game 2. Before looking ahead tonight, let’s take a "Quick" look back at Game 1. The pre-game video was quite good with the theme focusing on the Wild being in a new division, but heating up old rivalries from the days of the North Stars...

Wild comes up short in 4-3 overtime loss to Anaheim

The season opener started with such great expectations, with young players now going to be playing primetime roles on the team.  Better yet, the young players showed lots of promise and better still the Wild seemed to be embracing a puck possession style that involved less turnovers and more time controlling the play in the opposition's zone.  The team played with hustle, confidence...

Wild's Charlie Coyle to miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained knee

Second-line center Charlie Coyle will miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained knee the Wild announced tonight. The injury occurred with 8:54 left in the second period Saturday against Anaheim when Coyle was checked in the neutral zone by the Ducks' Andrew Cogliano. This is a huge blow for Coyle and the 0-0-2 Wild. Coyle won the second-line center position early in an outstanding training...

Ryan Suter has played in seven Nashville Predators home openers in his career while establishing himself as one of the NHL's top defensemen, but he almost certainly won't be celebrated in the eighth. Suter makes his second visit to Nashville on Tuesday night while looking to help the Minnesota Wild avoid dropping their first three games for the first time. Suter departed...

Brad Ratgen: The Case For Playing Nate Prosser Before Deciding on Dumba

Now that we have successfully freed Jason Zucker from the grips of the Iowa Wild (albeit at the expense of a one month injury time out for Charlie Coyle), it’s time we take a look at the Wild defense and attempt to see if Nate Prosser is getting a bum deal or not. Ask any plugged in Wild fan and they will tell you that before Matt Dumba enters the blue line conversation,...
