MINNEAPOLIS Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman will miss Tuesday's game against Atlanta in Minneapolis for personal reasons.
The coach was absent from Monday's practice and Tuesday's shootaround, and the announcement that he'd be absent Tuesday night came just three hours before tipoff. Assistant coach Terry Porter will serve as acting head coach. No word has been given as to when Adelman will rejoin the team; it will travel to Oklahoma City late Tuesday night after the Hawks game.
Porter has spent two full seasons and one partial season as a head coach. He led the Bucks to the playoffs in 2004 and then missed the postseason the next year before being released. In 2008-09, he coached the Suns for 51 games to a record of 28-23.
The Timberwolves sit at 15-15 under Adelman this season, having lost six of their past nine games. They face an Atlanta team coming off an 89-81 Saturday loss to Boston. The Hawks have lost three of their past four games.
