New York Yankees’ Ace pitcher CC Sabathia expects to be completely healthy for Spring Training and, more importantly for the Yankees, ready to pitch on Opening Day. In October, Sabathia had arthroscopic surgery on his left elbow to remove a bone spur. In November, Sabathia reported feeling well, and he has begun throwing from approximately 110 feet, nearly twice the distance of the pitcher’s mound. MLB.com’s Fantasy Player News and Updates reports, “Yankees ace CC Sabathia said that his pitching elbow feels ready to handle the workload of another season, and the left-hander expects to be close to his normal schedule as the team begins camp.” The report also states that manager Joe Girardi and pitching Coach Larry Rothschild like what they see and expect Sabathia to be ready for Spring Training with no issues regarding Sabathia’s elbow. Sabathia has been the Yankees’ ace since joining the team in 2009. As a Yankee, he is 74-29 with a 3.22 ERA. He finished 2012 at 15-6, 3.38. Even with missing time to injury, Sabathia still pitched 200 innings in 2012, averaging 7.14 innings per start. He not only saves the bullpen but pitches quality innings and gives his team a chance to win nearly every time out. CC Sabathia should undertake his full workout schedule soon after Spring Training begins. He will be ready to resume his role as staff ace on Opening Day.
