(Photo by Otto Greule Jr/Getty Images) New York Yankees 6 — Seattle Mariners 1   Robinson Cano and Mark Teixeira highlight a big third inning in tonight’s 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. For the Mariners, Aaron Harang started and was good the first time through the lineup. The second time through, the Yankees had his number. Jayson Nix led off the third inning with a single and the lineup turned over. Brett Gardner would single and Robinson Cano would bring home Nix and Gardner with a quick three-run home run. Cano’s 15th home run of the season would be quickly followed by Mark Teixeira’s third home run of the season. The back-to-back home runs brought home four runs and the Yankees would keep going. Travis Hafner would single and Kevin Youkilis would double. Vernon Wells, amidst an 0-for-18 slump, would snap out of it with a single over the second baseman to bring home a run. Ichiro Suzuki would single to bring home another run and end Harang’s night. In 2.1 innings, Aaron Harang allowed six runs (all in the third) on eight hits with no walks and three strikeouts. The second time through the lineup, the Yankees were 7-for-7 with a double and two home runs. Phil Hughes didn’t need much run support in his great start. Hughes would have at least one strikeout in each of his first five innings. In the seventh inning, Hughes would strikeout two to makeup for the lack of a strikeout in his sixth inning. On Hughes’ 111th pitch, he would walk his second batter and would exit the game. Preston Claiborne would take over and get one out and allow a runner to reach on an error. Boone Logan would take over and third baseman Kyle Seager would double in an inherited runner off of Logan. He would strikeout former Yankee Raul Ibanez and Kendrys Morales to end the inning Phil Hughes finished with one unearned run allowed in seven innings. He gave up three hits and walked two while striking out seven. Notably for the Mariners, long reliever Blake Beavan went 6.2 scoreless innings and didn’t allow a baserunner until Travis Hafner got a single in the eighth inning. For the Yankees, only Austin Romine was held hitless tonight.   Win – Phil Hughes (3-4) Loss – Aaron Harang (2-6)   Notables Yankees *Robinson Cano – 1 for 3, R, 3-Run Home Run (15) in the 3rd, 3 RBI (39) *Mark Teixeira – 1 for 4, R, Solo Home Run (3) in the 3rd, RBI (8) Mariners *Kyle Seager – 2 for 4, 2B, RBI (29) *Brendan Ryan – 1 for 2, R   Current Yankees Record: 35-25   Get your Yankees Tickets from our friends at TiqIQ.

Report: Robinson Cano Not Among 20 MLB Players Who Could Be Suspended for Biogenesis Connections

Major League Baseball has cast a wide net in its investigation of the Biogenesis clinic, but it appears that net is only going to ensnare one big-name Yankee. While Alex Rodriguez is among the 20 MLB players who are reportedly being targeted for suspensions due to their connection to the Biogenesis clinic in Miami, which is accused of distributing performance-enhancing drugs, Robinson...

Preview: Yankees @ Mariners (6/06/13)

Phil Hughes (2-4, 5.37 ERA) starts off the 10 game West Coast run against Aaron Harang (2-5, 5.82 ERA) and the Mariners. Hughes is looking to bounce back from his worst outing of the season back on May 15 in a rematch with Seattle. He was beaten up for seven runs on six hits and two walks with just two outs. Harang has allowed just one earned run over his last 15 innings as he...

MLB Preparing to Suspend Players Linked To Biogenesis, Including A-Rod

Here's the story via ESPN: In case you were wondering about Cano, John Harper reports that he isn't part of this upcoming wave of suspensions because "according to a Yankee source, there has been no indication from MLB that Robinson Cano is in danger of being suspended." Hopefully, that is true. By now I'm sure we're all pretty sick of A-Rod and...

Yankees 6, Mariners 1

Thanks to Phil Hughes, the New York Yankees could get away with only one inning of offense. What an inning it was. Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer and Mark Teixeira followed with a solo shot as part of New York's six-run third inning Thursday night, and Hughes took a shutout into the eighth for the Yankees in a 6-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. Cano and Teixeira were...

2013 Blind Resume: Second Base

Yesterday I looked at two first baseman and it was the perfect scenario for a blind resume. The top-drafted first baseman had almost the same stats as an un-drafted first baseman. Today I parallel two second baseman, and while the scenario isn’t as perfect, it’s still an interesting comparison. As usual, see if you can guess the identities of the players before they are revealed...

Yankees game 60 lineup: 6/6/13

The Yankees head out West for an 11-day, 10-game road trip beginning with the Seattle Mariners. Ichiro returns to Seattle where he played for 12 seasons, winning gold gloves and setting all-time records along the way. Phil Hughes gets the ball looking to find his groove again. Hughes has been “Jekyll and Hyde” this year, turning in a good start, bad start, good start. Last time...

Kevin Durant leaves agent, joins…

Kevin Durant has joined forces with Jay-Z Add Kevin Durant to the list of athletes who have left their agent in favor of Jay Z’s Roc Nation empire. At this pace, Jay-Z may become the only agency to sign with. Well, assuming you are a stud at your respective sport. Kevin Durant joins Robinson Cano, Geno Smith, Skylar Diggins, Victor Cruz and others to join the rap mogul’s team...

Empire Connections Abound On Biogenesis List

Well, well, well. Let's see: Alex Rodriguez, Melky Cabrera, Francisco Cervelli, Jesus Montero, and Robinson Cano have all been named in reports of potential suspensions for association with the disgraced Biogenesis Clinic in Florida. To be fair, Cano's connection is somewhat nebulous (the spokeswoman for his charitable foundation is on the clinic list), but do the above names...

Yankees game 62 lineup: 6/8/13

The Yankees will try to start another winning streak after seeing their four-game streak snapped last night. Andy Pettitte will take the mound in his second start after coming off of the disabled list. Robinson Cano went hitless last night, and has struggled mightily in his last handful of games. He will try to get things going against the Mariners’ Joe Saunders. Check out...
