In the wake of the rainout in Boston yesterday, Joe Girardi has named his rotation for the rest of the week up until Saturday. What he did was simply push back the starters a day each until then. He hasn’t figured out what he is going to do on Saturday yet when he will have the option of skipping Freddy Garcia and using ace CC Sabathia on normal rest.

Ivan Nova pitches on Friday and Joe Girardi said simply to George King of the NY Post, “After that, we’ll see.”

Garcia has struggled in three starts this season, averaging just four innings a start with a 9.75 ERA. His K/9 and BB/9 are right in line with what they were last season, his splitter has just been a bit flat and he’s been entirely all too hittable. With Andy Pettitte poised to comeback in roughly two weeks,

Girardi could elect to minimize the damage Garcia can do by skipping him this weekend. It would mean that Garcia only has to pitch once more between now and Pettitte’s return. That would also give him the option of using Garcia out of the bullpen if needed this week.

Garcia to be skipped?

From George A. King III: Joe Girardi has his rotation set through Friday night against the Tigers at Yankee Stadium. What the Yankees manager doesn’t have — at least publicly — is a starter for Saturday. Since last night’s game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park was washed out, CC Sabathia starts tonight against the Rangers instead of working last night. Ivan Nova...

Andy Pettitte throws 66 pitches in latest EST start

Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte continued on his road back to the Bronx yesterday when he threw 66 pitches, 58 for strikes, in an extended spring training game on Friday. “I’m happy I feel pretty comfortable with all my pitches,” Pettitte told Greg Auman of Newsday. “My legs are getting tired when they’re supposed to be getting tired. [It's] just pushing past when...

Pettitte To Start For Double-A Trenton on Wednesday

From George A. King III:Andy Pettitte is no longer just a hopeful wish to give the Yankees rotation a boost. The 39-year-old un-retired lefty is scheduled to start for Double-A Trenton on Wednesday in New Jersey. It will be Pettitte’s fourth minor league outing, and he likely will throw 80 to 85 pitches. After that the Yankees likely would want Pettitte to come close to the...

CC Sabathia starting to look CC-like

CC Sabathia got off to a really bad start, getting hit hard in his first two games against the weak offenses of the Rays and Orioles. His start against Minnesota didn’t go well at first either, but after a rough first couple of innings, he settled in and really started pitching like, well, CC. He carried that over to Monday night against Texas when one of the top offenses in...

Andy Pettitte to pitch for Trenton Thunder

New York Yankees left-hander Andy Pettitte will return to New Jersey this week to make the next start of his comeback. Pettitte is scheduled to be on the mound Wednesday night when the Trenton Thunder, New York's Double-A team, hosts the Erie SeaWolves. It will be the second minor league game Pettitte appears in this season, as he tries to return to the majors following a one...

Please, Oh Please, Let The Red Sox Stink

Never too early to hope.So tonight in Boston, a day after getting punked by the Yankees on their 100th anniver- sary, the Red Sox had vengeance working for them. Freddy Garcia got fingered by the second inning, the home town team was up nine in the sixth inning, and any sensible observer was starting to think about the Sunday game to see who would win the series. But, well, baseball...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 4/21

First pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast to 91% of the country on FOX. If you can't catch the television broadcast, you can...

The Yankee beat: Hughes, Pettitte, and Gardner

The Yankees got a strong start from CC Sabathia tonight and the offense continued to click as they beat the Texas Rangers 7-4. Here is our recap. And here is the latest from the Yankees blogosphere. The Yankee Analysts asks, at what point do you give up on Phil Hughes? As a starter, he really doesn’t have much time left but with a setback to Michael Pineda will the Yankees...

Andy Pettitte, Michael Pineda, and the Latest on the Yanks Rotation

The setback to Michael Pineda this past weekend where he was shut down after only 15 pitches on Saturday, along with the recent struggles of the Yankees rotation, have turned the signing of Andy Pettitte from a “luxury item” to a thing of urgent necessity. So how concerned are the Yankees with Pineda’s latest setback? I spoke with a member of the Yankees organization on...

Hamilton powering up his value to Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas On a night when a sluggish Rangers offense was made to look even more drowsy by Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia, Josh Hamilton remained the primary power source for the Rangers offense. Hamilton sent a Sabathia pitch 422 feet into the seats overlooking the Rangers bullpen in the sixth inning of a 7-4 loss. It was Hamilton's eighth home run in 17 games this season...

Game 16

Tonight's Pitching Match-Up CC Sabathia- (1-0) 5.59 ERA 1.34 WHIP Derek Holland- (2-0) 3.10 ERA 0.89 WHIP The Yankees coming off a "sweep" in Boston look to roll into Texas and take a few games from maybe the best team in baseball. Sabathia coming off a win against the Twins looks to forward that good fortune in Texas tonight. In CC's last start, he pitched...

Holland can’t hang with Sabathia

Derek Holland just didn’t have it tonight.  Maybe he was unnerved watching Pudge Rodriguez pitch from home to 2nd for the first pitch of the game.  Or maybe he just didn’t have it. Holland gave up two runs on three hits in the 1st inning.  Then he calmed down a little for the next few innings.  It seemed probable that the offense could catch up.  Until the 5th, when Holland...

Not-So-Rapid Reaction: Rangers 2, Yankees 0

On Monday night, excellent lefties CC Sabathia and Derek Holland combined to allow 11 runs. With struggling right-handers Hiroki Kuroda and Yu Darvish set to do battle last night, I was fully expecting a display of offensive fireworks, one that would thoroughly disappoint an entire nation that had called in sick from work just to see this game. Oops. When I predicted yesterday that...

Weekly game thread: Apr. 23 – Apr. 29

The Yankees had a solid week last week splitting a four game series with the Twins and then taking two out of two against the Red Sox over the weekend before Sunday’s rainout.
