First, a truthiness disclaimer: I did not watch last night's Boston beatdown. Having invested three painful hours on Tom Coughlin's amazingly punchless Snookies of the Jersey Shore, I decided that one TV humiliation per day is enough, and I would not subject myself to a second embarrassment. Also, I was attempting the ultimate, last-ditch juju move:  The Don't Watch.Everybody has tried it. You don't watch, and your team wins. It's a kamikaze move of personal juju, not something to throw out willy-nilly or higgedy-piggedy. If the Yankees had won last night, I would keep not-watching until the end - theoretically, I could never see another victory. If the Don't Watch had worked - (and it has, at times) - and the Yankees rolled 12-0, took the Wild Card, the playoffs and the World Series, launching the greatest Yankee streak in history, I would have only read about it in the Gammonite Gabfestss. That's the personal hell I was prepared to inhabit. Well, the bas...

Yankees Leave Boston After Suffering Insults On And Off The Field

This weekend could not have gone worse for the Yankees. That's not hyperbole. It's the simple truth. After they'd fought so hard to win 3 of 4 against the Baltimore Orioles and jumped both Baltimore and Cleveland in the Wild Card race, the Yankees went into Fenway Park and got swept. The pitching was the culprit in all three games, sinking the Yankee offense into...

Preview: Yankees @ Red Sox (9/15/13)

The Yankees last game against Boston this season has Ivan Nova (8-4 3.17 ERA) taking on the undefeated Clay Buchholz (10-0, 1.61 ERA.) Nova was limited to 79 pitches his last time out due to triceps tightness, but the Yankees believe he can stay in the rotation. He has faced Boston just once this year, allowing three runs in a four-inning start on September 5th. “You never want...

Yankees' Alfonso Soriano playing through thumb injury

If it were earlier in the season, or if he were still a member for the Chicago Cubs, Alfonso Soriano would likely be taking a few games off to rest his ailing right right. However, he's now a member of the New York Yankees, a team in the midst of a playoff chase, and Soriano, who's dealing with a thumb injury, told reporters -- including Bryan Hoch of MLB.com -- that he...

Red Sox honor Rivera before last game at Fenway

The Boston Red Sox are honoring New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera before his final scheduled game at Fenway Park. The Boston Cello Quartet played Rivera's theme song, ''Enter Sandman.'' Then the Red Sox played highlights from one of the low points in Rivera's career, his blown save in Game 4 of the 2004 AL championship series. Rivera was called out...

Ozzie Canseco named ULB Manager of the Year

You have to give it to the Canseco brothers, if anything, they love the game of baseball. At least that's the image they portray. Jose Canseco may be the Godfather of performance enhancers, but he did start the process that has cleaned up the game, the likes we have never seen. Ozzie Canseco was never the player his brother was. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the...

Joe Girardi Tells Yankees Players He’s Disappointed With Their Effort, Says ‘We Stunk Here’ After Sweep in Boston

They left Fenway Park on Sunday night three games out of the last playoff spot, dropping their season record against Boston to 6-13 after a weekend sweep in which they were outscored 22-7. New York is now 79-71 with just 12 games remaining in its season. Injuries and ineffective pitching...

Red Sox complete sweep of Yankees with 9-2 win

The Red Sox completed the sweep of their three-game set against the Yankees Sunday night taking the finale of the season series 9-2. The Sox finish the season series 13-6 against the Yankees winning the series for just the second time since 2005. The 13 wins match the most against the Yankees in a season by any team since the 1976 Orioles went 13-5. The win combined with the...

Yankees get swept, Giants get schooled on a Sunday to forget

The New York Yankees got beaten badly in Beantown. Mr. Met making a funny. It was a three game sweep that made Yankee fans everywhere question whether this 2013 team is even good enough to compete if they happen to slide into the postseason, which would be via Wild Card berth only. That is because the moment the Red Sox finished off the Yankees last night, they eliminated the Bronx...
