(USA Today Sports Images) Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Jose Iglesias isn’t just giving John Farrell options. He’s giving them to Ben Cherington, too. The trade deadline remains six weeks away, but it’s never too early to start thinking about what the Sox need and what they could trade to get it. There was a time when Iglesias would’ve served as bait. But by forcefully stating his case for regular playing time, he’s making a good player expendable, which puts the Red Sox in a position of strength as they look to upgrade their bullpen or perhaps the back of their rotation for the second half. Drew’s track record, affordability (no money owed beyond this season), and defensive prowess could make him attractive to contenders in either league. The Cardinals, for instance, are getting little out of starter Pete Kozma. Ditto for the Reds and Zack Cozart. Those are just two examples. As of now, there are no indications the Red Sox plan to shop Drew, but considering how aggressive Cherington has been in first ripping down and then rebuilding this current roster, it’s fair to say he’s not gun shy. Herald - Play of Jose Iglesias could lead to Stephen Drew trade As long as the Sox are contending for the AL East crown, I don't expect them to move Drew.  It's fun to play the hypothetical 'Iglesias has been so great, he's forcing the Sox hand' game, especially for us Jose lovers, but it's not reasonable. Especially when you consider the fact that a) The Sox just shipped Ciriaco (CIRIACO!!!) out of town, so they have no super-utility man.  And b) Middlebrooks has been awful.  The Sox need roster versatility.  Especially heading into July when guys are going to start getting tired and bodies will start breaking down.  Having too many good players right now isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. That all said, you can't shut the door completely on the potential to make that move.  There's a price for every player, and if someone is willing to toss the Sox the right package for a few months of Drew, Cherington will make that move.  But there's also the flip-side to the Rise of Iglesias (TM).  When Drew came to town, it appeared as those Iglesias' days in Boston were nearing an end.  People were questioning whether he'd ever belong at the major league level.  There's no way that didn't play a huge part in his stellar play this season.  His back was against the wall, and he responded magnificently.  Maybe the message has been received, and he'll play at a high level from here on out.  Or maybe, just maybe, once he knows there's no longer any threat to his playing time, he'll start to slip.  I doubt it, but that's something that Cherington certainly has to be cautious of.  Either way, more Jose please.
