Baseball Musings:
Gregg Zaun’s shoulder may keep him out the entire season:
Catcher Gregg Zaun just said he has a labrum tear in his throwing shoulder and said it’s “50-50″ as to whether he’ll play again this season.
That means the Brewers either will have to acquire an experienced catcher or go the rest of the year with George Kottaras, with one year of big-league service, and rookie Jonathan Lucroy, just called up.
Offensively, Lucroy did a great job of getting on base in the minors. At 24, he should be ready for the majors. If his defense is okay, he would likely be the better, cheaper option. Kottaras is a bit older, but he’s not terrible offensively either.
