South Korea's Ki Bo-bae won the Olympic gold medal in individual archery Thursday after Mexico's Aida Roman lost a tense sudden-death shoot-off. This was the second gold medal for Ki, following the one for women's team title. It was the country's third medal in the sport at the London Games, the other a bronze in men's team. Roman's silver was the second medal of the day for the young Mexico team after 18-year-old Mariana Avitia beat American veteran Khatuna Lorig 6-2 in the bronze match. Lorig was denied a second Olympic medal 20 years after her first - a bronze in the team event at the 1992 Barcelona Games. With the score 5-5 in sets, Ki managed only an eight in the shoot-off. Roman needed to put her arrow in the yellow center ring, but she lost when her arrow was further away from the center than Ki's. Ki went first and looked downcast after she missed the 10-point center circle, but Roman also was off target, sending her arrow left. The relieved South Korean hugged her coach...
