The main events will have a tough act to follow after a terrific scrap between Mike Alvarado and Mauricio Herrera, but Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios is certainly capable of doing so. He'll take on Richard Abril in what was supposed to be a lightweight title bout until Rios missed weight.

Two national anthems will be played before the punches start flying. There's also the Top Rank "This is boxing" video package, which is awesome.

Rios comes out first with some live musical accompaniment. Bam Bam is 29-0-1 with 21 knockouts, and he's stopped 10 of his last 11 opponents. This is the second straight fight that saw him fail to make the 135-pound lightweight limit, so he's likely headed for 140 sooner rather than later.

Hailing from Cuba and now residing in Miami, Abril makes his ring walk second. The 29-year old is 17-2-1 with just eight KOs. He'll get a portion of Rios' purse and is the only man that can leave with the WBA lightweight belt thanks to Bam Bam's trouble on the scales.

Lupe Contreras does the official introductions. ESPN's Dan Rafael reports that there are just over 3,700 on hand at the Mandalay Bay. Vic Drakulich is the referee in charge of the action. And we're all set for a scheduled 12 rounds of boxing.

Round 1

Abril reaches to find the distance and tries some hooks that are blocked. He looks like he is going to try using his length to give Rios some trouble finding a way in. Abril moves from side to side, then ties up Rios coming in. Abril lands a right to the body; Rios tries to respond in kind. Bam Bam stalks but isn't throwing much at all. The first right hand lands for Rios, and it knocks his foe off balance. Abril comes back with a right hand over the top.

Tylwalk: 10-9 Abril

Round 2

Abril jabs three times before pulling the trigger on a body shot. He's grabbing Rios quickly on every charge. Brandon finally gets a hand free to land an uppercut. Abril lands tow right hands but is on his bike a bit. Both men go to the body from close range. Drakulich cautions Abril for holding. He goes to the body hard, and Rios chases him at full speed. Rios uncorks a left hand that clubs its way over Abril's guard. Two clean but relatively light shots land for Abril.

Tylwalk: 10-9 Abril

Round 3

Robert Garcia wants some more body movement from Rios as he makes his way in. Abril keeps his distance, landing from a few steps away. Rios is still getting tied up at every opportunity. Both men get a little off balance along the ropes. Rios unleashes some hooks with both hands. Abril lets his hands go with combination punching, but Rios slugs his way through the fire. Abril lands to the body with a right. Rios scores with a right hand, and Abril responds with an uppercut. Close round.

Tylwalk: 10-9 Rios

Round 4

Trying to get back to what worked before, Abril pops some jabs from a distance. He nails Rios with a right hand on his way in. Bam Bam eats another right as he stalks ineffectively. The crowd boos as Rios is grabbed around the waist. Abril's style is awkward but he makes it work. Rios attempts a series of left hooks, but Abril rolls his shoulder to make himself hard to hit flush.

Tylwalk: 10-9 Abril

Round 5

Abril lets multiple left hands go, causing Rios to try the same thing in response. Abril also lands a combo before backing off again. Raul Marquez thinks Rios looks slow especially with his footwork. Bam Bam tries in vain to get something going on the inside. Rios finally lands a left hand, but not before he eats three upstairs while closing the range. Abril snaps off a clean one-two from distance. The crowd tries to get Rios going.

Tylwalk: 10-9 Abril
