IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch has been taunted by George Groves ever since he defeated him by stoppage in their late-November fight, but Froch won’t let those antics keep him away from taking the next step in his career. Many people feel that George deserves the immediate rematch because he was up in the cards when the fight with Froch was stopped by the refs. The truth is that George would’ve won that fight if the referee didn’t prematurely stop the fight and it’d be him looking to take that next step in his career. Froch isn’t looking back at ‘what ifs’ though and instead wants his first fight of 2014 to be against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., not Groves. Chavez Jr. is a much bigger name in the boxing community and it’d allow Froch to fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, one of the most prestigious venues boxing has to offer. Froch spoke with Sky Sports News about his 2014 plans: “The fight with Chavez Jr. is one of the five options that I do have and that’s a fight that I can get motivated for, a fight that excites me. I spoke to my promoter, Eddie Hearn, yesterday and that fight is pretty much nailed on as being done and I’m happy with it.” He also spoke about having the fight in Las Vegas: “Going over to America to fight in Las Vegas is something all British pros want to do. To be on a PPV channel in America is something very few British fighters have done.” Froch then addressed the possible rematch scenarios with George Groves: “I’m bored of listening to his whining and moaning and cursing. You’ll find out I actually do call the shots – I’ve got two world titles and he’s not got any because I beat him and defended my title. I’ve got two fights this year, one of those should be Groves and the other will be Chavez Jr.”
