Chris Eubank Sr has revealed that he is attempting to pull his son Chris Eubank Jr out of his proposed fight with Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr and Benn were due to meet in the ring on the first weekend of October, reigniting their fathers’ feud from many moons ago.

However, with the fight now on the horizon and the promo ramping up, Eubank Sr has revealed he is attempting to have the fight cancelled.

Eubank Sr, who lost one of his sons to a heart attack earlier in the year, is fearful that he will lose another if the fight were to go ahead.

He’s quoted by the Daily Mail saying, “If you have a child and someone’s trying to actually take that child away from you, and do something wrong to that child, as a dad you wouldn’t let them. That’s all I’m doing.”

“I’ve given him my direction. If he doesn’t want to follow it, he will be dragged along. But he will do what is right for him… he is coming down 1oz below 160lbs which cannot happen on my watch.”

“This is modern-day’ gladiating’, this is not a plaything for the audience. We have to be strict otherwise lives are put in danger and my son’s life cannot be put in danger. I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again.”

A strict and highly-contentious rehydration clause in the fight contract seems to be the root of Eubank Sr’s anxiety. His son would have to go through hell and put his health at risk to make weight.

While we all want to see this fight happen and would be seriously upset were it to be cancelled, you have to respect the love of a father going above and beyond to help his son. We respect whatever decision will be made.
