I wasn't watching the (nearly unwatchable) Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin heavyweight bout for long before I found myself saying at least once a round: "Ferchrissakes ref, holding is a foul!" Nevermind all the shoving, pushing, tripping, and leaning Klitschko was doing while he was holding. Luis Pabon warnings were infrequent and weak, and he should have begun deducting points starting in Round 3 or 4, not Round 11. In particular, at least two of the three "knockdowns" in Round 7 were really slips resulting from Klitschko shoving Povetkin to the floor, and therefore should have resulted in Klitschko losing two points and finally being disqualified. Credit: Sumio Yamada However, if Pabon had shown a willingness to do his job by giving stern warnings and backing them up with point deductions earlier in the fight, the atrocious Round 7 likely would never have happened. Wladimir Klitschko seems destined to overcome Joe Louis

Wladimir Klitschko easily defended The Ring, WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight belts against inferior challenger Alexander Povetkin on Saturday at the Olimpiyskiy arena in Moscow. All three judges ruled that the 37-year-old Klitschko (61-3, 52 KOs) overwhelmed the 34-year-old Povetkin (26-1, 18 KOs) by a score of 119-104. Bruised and bleeding, the 6-foot-2 Povetkin was floored on...

Klitschko vs. Povetkin results: Wladimir dominates in ugly 12-round fight

Wladimir Klitschko dominated Alexander Povetkin on Saturday in an HBO-televised clash from Moscow, Russia. But despite the lopsided nature of the bout, this won't go down as an impressive performance, or a signature win for Klitschko. The Klitschko vs. Povetkin fight was ugly and near-unwatchable, filled with nonstop holding and clinches, and devoid of drama or quality action...

Wladimir Klitschko Strikes Again, Povetkin Proves No Match

At the Olimpiyskiy in Moscow Saturday evening Wladimir Klitschko took on yet another challenger for his WBO, WBA, IBF and IBO belts in Alexander Povetkin. The 34-year-old Russian had the advantage of a home crowd for the fight but the fans can only do so much. Povetkin, like most before him, fell victim to the […]

Wladimir Klitschko Mugs Alexander Povetkin

There have been back alley assaults outside West Virginia taverns cleaner than what Wladimir Klitschko did to Alexander Povetkin Saturday in Russia on HBO en route to a 119-104 unanimous decision across the board. There have been more credible performances by WWE referees, too, than the officiating Luis Pabon "administered" Saturday. Klitschko still was a class above...

Wladimir Klitschko Still the King of the Heavyweights

by Sam C. CoulterWladimir Klitschko showed yet again just why he is the king of the heavyweight division with a convincing point victory over the determined Alexander Povetkin in Povetkin’s home country of Russia. Before the fight many billed this as Wladimir’s biggest test in years as he was going in with a rugged, unbeaten fighter who would give his all. The truth is that Klitschko...

Boxing's Allegedly "Boring" Fighters, Ranked
